Do you like beautiful golf courses, luxury hotels, friendly people, incredible food and insider experiences — all without having to do much more than sign up for it and get on a plane?
Then you'll love this 8-day adventure with Asia Golf Trips founder/owner Scott Resch, a Seattleite who has been organizing and guiding bespoke trips to great golf destinations since 2007.
On this trip, you’ll not only tee it up at four of the finest courses in a country that has won World's Best Golf Destination two years in a row(!), but explore three of its most compelling locales: Lisbon, Comporta and Algarve.
As well, you’ll taste the finest in Portuguese cuisine and hospitality in the form of exclusive culinary/cultural experiences and award-winning hotels.
And again, you'll do it all with an in-the-know American by your side and leading the way, so you never wonder where to go, what to do and where to be at what time.
This is PERFECT PORTUGAL with Asia Golf Trips.
Itinerary includes 1h9m layover in New York (JFK).
Get your stay in Portugal's capital started in style — at historic Tivoli Avenida Liberdade. Since opening its doors in 1933 as Pensao Tivoli, the Grande Dame of Lisbon hotels has delivered such exceptional hospitality that it is celebrated throughout the world. The storied landmark became a particular draw in the 1960s, when many American tourists began arriving to Lisbon for the first time. It's still a hot spot thanks in part to its glamorous rooftop bar, which overlooks Avenida da Liberdade, the most elegant thoroughfare in Lisbon, and offers spectacular views of the Tagus River in the distance.
Our first round of golf is about 45 minutes west of Lisbon at Oitavos Dunes, a beautiful Arthur Hills design that made GOLF Magazine's coveted 'World Top 100' list in 2017. Located in a national park on the outskirts of the gorgeous seaside town of Cascais and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Oitavos Dunes was the first course in Europe to receive Audubon Gold Certification. Its old-fashioned, out-and-back routing and lovely mix of woodland and links-type holes are big reasons why the Portuguese Open has been contested here four times.
Get your first full day going with a bit of an adventure: a guided e-bike ride through the cobbles of Lisbon's quirky streets, with several opportunities to sample some traditional Portuguese food and drink. On this private, 3-hour tour, you'll also stop at key landmarks and learn about Lisbon's rich, old-world heritage.
This morning, we'll check out of Tivoli Avenida Liberdade and transfer about an hour south to sleepy Comporta, home to two courses that are rising fast in the international golf rankings: Dunas and Torre. Before teeing off at Dunas, we'll check into Sublime Comporta, which truly is sublime — and is just 10 minutes from either course.
Get ready to fall in love with this hip haven in an area that has come to be called the "Hamptons of Portugal." Not only is it just a few minutes from the courses you'll play on Saturday and Sunday, but it's got all the characteristics you could ever want in a 5-star escape, including cosy cabana villas, pools and fire pits galore, and a restaurant whose open-plan dining room puts the Great Outdoors center stage. The only problem with this place is you won't want to leave!
This afternoon, you’ll test your skills at Dunas, which won World's Best New Course at the 2023 World Golf Awards. Designed by David McLay Kidd (Bandon Dunes, Gamble Sands, Mammoth Dunes), the course is somewhat reminiscent of Pinehurst, in that it weaves through a forest of tall pines situated on miles of unspoiled sand dunes. It's all nature, no construction. And while you won't see the ocean, you'll hear it.
After a leisurely breakfast at Sublime, you'll be ready for your tee time at Torre, the first — and still only — golf course designed by European Ryder Cup legend and 2017 Masters champion Sergio Garcia. Opened in October 2025, the layout occupies a similar piece of real estate to Dunas but feels a lot different, mainly because there's less separation between holes and a greater variety of views.
No trip to Portugal is complete without getting a taste of the country's distinctive wine culture. After golf at Torre, head a few minutes down the road to Herdade da Comporta, a renowned winery set within a nature reserve and offering an immersive tasting experience that showcases the exceptional varietals of the Setúbal region.
After a leisurely breakfast at Sublime Comporta, we'll check out and head another 90 minutes south, this time to the Algarve, a region noted for a coastline that is synonymous with dramatic limestone cliffs, turquoise waters and colorful fishing villages and beach towns. From our address in the Algarve — Hotel Epic Sana — you're just a short walk down a tree-lined trail to one of Portugal's most famous beaches: Falésia.
The name says it all: Epic is a category of 5-star hotels that know how to provide elegance in every space and refinement in every service. The grounds are gorgeous, the rooms all come with balconies facing the sea, and the last course you'll play — Vilamoura Old — is just 15 minutes away.
Finish the trip with a bang by teeing it up at a course that shares a lot of the same traits as the Olympic Club in San Francisco: Vilamoura Old, Algarve’s second oldest course and, thanks to recent renovations, its best. The Frank Pennink creation — which has been called “a symbol of the English school of golf course design” — is always in impeccable condition and its clubhouse, which was recently refurbished also, is just as impressive.
There are several ways you can spend your one non-golf day in the Algarve, mainly because there's so much to do in this area of dramatic limestone cliffs, sea caves and hidden beaches. Go for an easy stroll along the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail. Explore the coastline by kayak or boat. Go dolphin watching. Visit one of the many charming villages that dot the coastline. Or just hang out on the beach and go for a swim in crystal-clear waters. The choice is all yours. And Scott will set it up.
