Do you like extraordinary golf courses, remarkable hotels, friendly people, warm weather, phenomenal food (and wine!), and true insider experiences — all without having to do much more than sign up for it and get on a plane?
Then you'll love this eight-day adventure with Asia Golf Trips founder/owner Scott Resch, who has been organizing and guiding high-touch, small-group trips to great golf destinations since 2007.
On this particular trip, you’ll not only tee it up at five courses in a country that has won World's Best Golf Destination two years in a row, but get to know three of its most compelling locales: Lisbon, Comporta and Algarve.
As well, you’ll taste the finest in Portuguese cuisine and hospitality in the form of unrivaled culinary and cultural experiences and unforgettable five-star retreats.
And again, you'll do it all with an in-the-know American by your side and leading the way, so you never wonder where to go, what to do and where to be at what time.
This is PERFECT PORTUGAL with Asia Golf Trips.
NOTE: Itinerary includes 1-hour, 7-minute layover in Philadelphia (PHL).
Get your stay in Portugal's capital started in style — at a luxury boutique hotel that blends a restored 19th-century palace facade with exquisite, contemporary interiors. Located just off fabled Avenida da Liberdade, one of the city’s most elegant thoroughfares, PortoBay Liberdade is the perfect spot from which to explore everything that makes this metropolis magnificent. Here, you'll stay in a spacious suite with elegant living areas that give you more room to unwind and make it easy to relax after a day on the links or wandering old Lisbon's hilly, cobbled streets.
Our first round of golf is about half an hour west of Lisbon at Oitavos Dunes, a beautiful Arthur Hills design that made GOLF Magazine's coveted 'World Top 100' list in 2017. Located in a national park on the outskirts of the picturesque seaside town of Cascais and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this course was the first in Europe to receive Audubon Gold Certification. Its old-fashioned, out-and-back routing and imaginative mix of woodland and links-type holes are big reasons why the Portuguese Open has been contested here four times.
Get to know Lisbon well in a short amount of time by first taking part in a private, 4-hour walking tour of the old city with our trusty local guide Patricia, and then experiencing one of the country's great pastimes: a multi-course dinner broken up by exquisite fado performances, Portugal's version of the blues.
This morning, we'll check out of PortoBay Liberdade and transfer about an hour south to the quiet enclave of Comporta, home to two new courses that are rising fast in the international golf rankings: Dunas and Torre. We'll head straight to Dunas, play golf, then check into Sublime Comporta, the most talked about resort in Portugal.
Get ready to fall in love with this hip haven in an area that has come to be called the "Hamptons of Portugal." Not only is Sublime Comporta just a few minutes from the courses you'll play in this area, but it's got all the characteristics you could ever want in a five-star escape, including cosy cabana villas, an array of pools and a restaurant whose open-plan dining room puts the Great Outdoors center stage. The only problem with this place is you won't ever want to leave.
After a short drive down from Lisbon, you’ll test your skills at Dunas, which won World's Best New Course at the 2023 World Golf Awards. Designed by David McLay Kidd (Bandon Dunes, Gamble Sands, Mammoth Dunes), the course is somewhat reminiscent of Pinehurst, in that it weaves through a forest of tall pines situated on miles of rolling sand dunes. It's all nature, no construction. And while you won't see the ocean, you'll hear it — it's just a stone's throw over those trees.
How are Sergio Garcia's architectural chops? You'll find out this morning when you play Torre, the first — and still only — course designed by the 2017 Masters champ. Opened in October 2025, the layout occupies a similar piece of real estate to Dunas but feels a lot different, mainly because there's less separation between holes and a greater variety of views.
No trip to Portugal is complete without getting a taste of the country's distinctive wine culture. After golf at Torre, you'll head 5 minutes up the road to Herdade da Comporta, a renowned winery set within a nature reserve and offering an immersive tasting experience that showcases the exceptional varietals of the Setúbal region.
Ready for the Riviera of Portugal? After breakfast, we'll head further down the coastline to Algarve, a region noted for dramatic limestone cliffs, turquoise waters and colorful beach towns and fishing villages. Before checking in at our final hotel, we’ll stop somewhere scenic to take down a seafood lunch while taking in the beauty of one of Europe's great holiday destinations.
The last hotel on the itinerary — Domes Lake — is a tranquil, five-star lifestyle destination built on a private lake of its own with views of the cosmopolitan Vilamoura marina and skyline and easy access to famed Falesia Beach and the last course you'll play: Vilamoura Old.
Today you'll tee it up at arguably the crown jewel of Portuguese golf. Located near the Spanish border (about an hour east of Domes Lake), Monte Rei is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course whose collection of mature holes artfully blend into the secluded rolling hills of Eastern Algarve. You're going to love it.
Finish your dream golf trip to Portugal with a morning round at Vilamoura Old, Algarve's most iconic track. With is towering cork trees and hilly, parkland-style layout, this club is sure to evoke the Olympic Club in San Francisco. It feels just like a private establishment too, thanks to its impeccable conditions and attention to detail. In other words, this place is first class through and through.
Rather than sprint down to the Algarve in two hours on a day when there's no golf planned, we'll mosey. We'll skip the inland highway and venture instead along the coast, stopping a few times to take in some views, a bit of history and a seafood lunch. Before checking into our hotel in the afternoon, you'll have discovered the raw beauty and laid-back spirit of Portugal's southernmost region.
On May 18, you can either fly back to the U.S. — Faro airport is just 20 minutes from Domes Lake hotel — or extend your trip and explore another part of Portugal or Europe. If an add-on interests you, talk to Scott. He'd be happy to not only provide suggestions, but make arrangements for you at cost plus a small service fee.
