Everest Base Camp is a classic, world class trek, taking you to some of the biggest mountains on our planet. The shear size and enormity of these mountains are breathtaking, and with our enriching 13 or 16 day itinerary we have opportunity to take in incredible views of the Himalayan range.

Early morning departure to the domestic airport and a 45min flight to Lukla (9186ft), the gateway to the Everest (Khumbu) region. We begin our trek up the Dudh Kosi river, descending through small settlements such as Chheplung and Ghat to arrive at Phakding where we spend our first night.

Today's destination is the largest settlement in the Khumbu, the Namche Bazar, which is the traditional trading centre of the Sagarmatha National Park. We begin with officially entering the National Park, which is quickly followed by a spectacular crossing of the Dudh Kosi on our first major suspension bridge. From here we ascend steeply through a series of switch backs to arrive in the busy village of Namche (11286ft) where we are greeted with an abundance of shops, cafes and teahouses.

Acclimatisation Day in Namche Bazar

We will spend our 2nd night in Namche, in order to acclimatise to the altitude gained and thinner air. There are several quality restaurants, hotels, lodges, shops, internet cafes and bakeries. We pay a visit to the Sherpa culture museum which also includes an extensive exhibition on the history of mountaineering, and hike up to Syangboche airport to help with our acclimatisation.

We ascend out of the village and follow a high, fairly level path above the Dudh Kosi enjoying spectacular mountain views of Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse as we go. We pass the various shops set up by Tibetans selling trinkets and then descend through forest of blue pine to cross the Dudh Kosi again at Phunki (3,250m). We make another ascent on a to reach the spectacularly sited Thyangboche Monastery (3,867m) from where there are brilliant views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Taboche to the north and northeast, Thamserku and Kantega to the southeast and Kwangde to the southwest. Tengboche monastery. The Monastery, which was originally built in 1916 by Lama Gulu, was destroyed by an earthquake in 1934 and destroyed again in by fire in 1989, before being fully restored in subsequent years; magnificent site. We reach our teahouse at Deboche.

Side Trip to Ama Dablam Base Camp

Today we have the option of taking a side trip to the incredible basecamp of Ama Dablam (15091ft). Ama Dablam is the ‘Matterhorn’ of the Himalayas, ‘Ama’ meaning mother ‘Dablam’ meaning ‘necklace’, referring the traditional double pendant necklace Sherpani women wear. This is a great day!

Today we have the option of heading east to visit the side settlement of Chukhung (15518ft), the traditional starting point for people aspiring to climb the popular trekking peak, known as Island Peak. Some of the best views of Lhotse and Lhotse Shar are gained today.

Hike to Everest Base Camp

A steady hike 2/3hrs over the enormous glacial moraine of the Khumbu glacier to take us to EBC (17598ft), where we can see the incredible Western Cym, famously known as the ‘Khumbu icefall’, and marks the point which leads climbers to camp one and beyond.

From base camp we then take a helicopter back to Kathmandu for those people that are returning, or descend to Pheriche 4250m.

Guided Sightseeing in Kathmandu

A professional guide and vehicle are provided for a day of sightseeing in and around Kathmandu city. We visit some of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the city along with other interesting cultural monuments in the valley. These include Boudhanath Stupa, the largest Buddhist shrines in the world, Pashupatinath, the holiest Hindu temple in the world, Dubar Squares, palaces and fortresses of medieval Kings, along with other popular cultural attractions. We get to observe the lifestyle of Nepalese people, holy Sadhus, monks, fascinating history as well as awe-inspiring culture. Enjoy a farewell meal in the evening.
