About your trip

The guide will walk you from the office to the beach, approximately 300 meters, where you’ll enter Marino Ballena National Park and board the boat to begin the tour.

During the tour, you’ll explore the stunning natural beauty of Marino Ballena National Park, including Whale Rock, the Three Sisters islets, the Ventanas sea caves, and the  whale tail.

We visit a natural bird sanctuary at Whale Rock, where you can spot resident and migratory seabirds, as well as reptiles such as green iguanas and lizards.

If weather and ocean conditions allow, we will also snorkel in the coral reef areas within the park. The tour includes marine wildlife watching, with opportunities to see whales during the season, dolphins, and up to a 95% chance of spotting sea turtles.

At the end of the tour, we return to the original departure point. Guests may choose to stay at the beach and enjoy the park or return to the office with the guide.

DESCRIPTION

Whale Watching Season in Costa Rica

Humpback whales can be observed during two main seasons in Costa Rica: from December to late March, when they migrate from the Northern Hemisphere, and from early July to late October, when they arrive from the Southern Hemisphere.

These majestic whales, also known as yubartas, are famous for their long migrations and are the most frequently seen species in our waters. Occasionally, visitors may also spot Bryde’s whales or pilot whales.

Dolphins can be seen year-round with a 95% chance of sightings. The most common species along the Pacific coast are bottlenose dolphins—often called “bufeos”—and spotted dolphins.

Although the chances of seeing cetaceans are very high, sightings are not guaranteed every day, as these are wild animals in their natural habitat and their exact locations cannot be predicted.
