Day 1

Day 1 image

Arrival - Night in Reykjavík

You'll land at Keflavík International Airport, located in the country's southwest corner. After you land, pick up your bags and head out to the arrivals hall. There, you’ll find a private transfer to take you across the lava fields of the Reykjanes Peninsula to your accommodation in Iceland's capital, Reykjavík.

Once you've settled into your room, you can rest up for your adventures on the road tomorrow. Alternatively, you can go out and explore your surroundings. The evenings are bright in Iceland, allowing you to explore sites such as Hallgrímskirkja Church or Harpa Concert Hall late into the night.

Day 2

Day 2 image

Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Now it is time to explore the magical Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Watching over your journey today is the mighty Snæfellsjökull, a glacier topped volcano which is believed by many to be a great source of mystical energy.

Snæfellsnes is characterised by desolate lava strewn fields, tall mountains, and countless streams and waterfalls. On the South-side of the peninsula, you can visit the jet-black church at Búðir, the tiny village of Arnarstapi, the massive Lóndrangar rock pillars, and the black pebble beach Djúpalónssandur. In the North, see the cone-shaped mountain Kirkjufell and its neighbouring waterfall, Kirkjufellsfoss. You can also stop at the charming Stykkishólmur Town for a bite to eat. You will end the day at accommodations in the area.

Day 3

Day 3 image

West Iceland & Víðgelmir Lava Tube Cave

Today, it is time to explore what West-Iceland has to offer. Travel through farmlands towards two stunning but vastly different waterfalls; Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. Close by is Europe’s most powerful hot spring, Deildartunguhver.

Seeing that you are in charge, you get to choose where you go and how long you’ll stop there. History buffs can, for example, explore the settlement of Reykholt, where a Medieval writer of the Sagas, Snorri Sturluson, used to live. Likewise, photographers should visit the fishing town, Akranes, and snap a great picture of one of the most Instagrammable places in Iceland, the Akranesviti Lighthouses.

Víðgelmir is not only the largest cave in Iceland but one of the largest lava tubes in the world, at around 1600 metres (5249 ft) long. The lava tube is located in the Hallmundarhraun lava field on the edge of the Icelandic highlands.

On this tour, you’ll meet your friendly guide at the cave’s visitor centre. They will provide you with a helmet with a headlight before you make your way inside. After descending into the lava tube and walking through a narrow tunnel, the cave opens up into a spacious area, lit up with fixed lights.

You’ll follow your friendly guide along a walkway which will take you from one great hall to the next. You’ll see countless stalagmites, stalactites, and other strange rock formations. The vivid, rainbow-like colours of the cave’s wall will also, undoubtedly, catch your eye.

  • It is cold in the cave so wear warm clothes and good shoes.

Day 4

South Coast & Sólheimajökull Glacier Hiking

A short drive from the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss is Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland’s fourth largest glacier. One of the glacier tongues of Mýrdalsjökull is called Sólheimajökull, and it will serve as the setting for your glacier hike today.

By the roots of Sólheimajökull, you will find your glacier guide who will begin by telling you a little bit about glaciers; about how they are formed to the dangers they face. Before you set foot on the ice, you will be given all the glacier gear needed which include crampons and a helmet. No technical skills are required for this tour, and your trained guide will be with you throughout your journey.

You will follow your guide up the glacier, passing ash-streaked blocks of ice, a result from past volcanic eruptions. Along the way, you will stop to look into deep glacier moulins and electric blue crevasses. As you stand on top of the glacier, take a minute to appreciate the beauty of your surroundings, as well as the complete silence and serenity found here.

  • Wear warm and waterproof clothes and good hiking shoes.

Included: Dinner at Hótel Dyrhólaey’s restaurant

Day 5

Day 5 image

Vatnajökull National Park

Today, you’ll explore Vatnajökull National Park. You´ll see Skaftafell Nature Reserve, the perfect place for nature-lovers as here you can find some of Iceland’s most staggering natural scenery. Here is where black sands meets a white glacier, and you can find numerous tracks and trails exploring this wonderful region.

You will find the beautiful Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in the heart of Vatnajökull National Park. At the lagoon, enormous icebergs float on a bright blue lake while seals swim around them. A short walk away from Jökulsárlón is the Diamond Beach. Scattered on the shores of this black sand beach are small icebergs that have washed up on shore. As they glisten in the sunlight, they look like diamonds on a black velvet blanket. You will then head to your accommodations in the area.

Day 6

Day 6 image

Southwest Iceland & Zodiac Boat Tour on Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon

Now it is time to make your way back to Reykjavík. It is up to you whether you rush back to explore this northernmost capital of the world or take your time getting back to discover more of South Iceland’s attractions.

On your way back to the city, you can choose to stop at any of the places you explored in the previous days. Alternatively, you can check out some new locations, such as Kvernufoss Waterfall, Hjörleifshöfði Cave or the roots of Sólheimajökull Glacier.

The tour to sail amongst the icebergs of a glacier lagoon starts at a base camp near Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon. There, you will meet your guide who will provide you with a flotation suit and life jacket. You will then board the boat and sail on the water, getting as close to the massive icebergs as possible.

You will sail in a Zodiac boat, a type of Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIB). Their stiff hull provides excellent shock absorption, giving the boat more stability on the water. That makes them a perfect choice for those who tend to suffer from motion sickness. In addition, the lightweight construction and powerful motor make the Zodiac Boat extremely fast, allowing you to see more and experience more in a shorter amount of time.

  •  Wear warm and waterproof clothes, a hat and gloves.

Day 7

Day 7 image

Golden Circle

Now it is time to visit the three famous sites of the Golden Circle route: Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Waterfall and Geysir Geothermal Area.

Þingvellir is not only historically significant, but it is a geographical wonder; it is where the Eurasian and the N-American tectonic plates meet.

At Geysir Geothermal Area, you can watch the geyser Strokkur erupt in a large column of hot water and steam. Dotted around the region are also countless bubbling mud pools and hissing steam vents.

Meltwater from a nearby glacier fuels the impressive Gullfoss Waterfall, and there are several viewpoints from which you can get a great selfie with the cascade in the background. After exploring the sites of the Golden Circle — perhaps with a detour to Kerið Crater Lake, Skálholt historical site or Efstidalur farm — head to your accommodation in the city.

Day 8

Day 8 image

Departure Day

Now it is time to pack your bags and say ‘goodbye’ to Iceland. If your flight leaves in the afternoon or evening, you can store your bags at the hotel and explore downtown Reykjavík. We highly recommend that you take a walk down Laugavegur shopping street and explore the colourful houses and street art. We also recommend a walk up to Hallgrímskirkja Church, the iconic landmark building of Iceland, and to the architectural wonder of Harpa Concert Hall.

When it is time to head to the airport, a personal driver will pick you up and take you across the lava fields of the Reykjanes Peninsula to the airport.
