Welcome to the start of your expedition, and welcome to Tanzania! Busy Arusha is an essential part of the mountain life here in northern Tanzania, and most travelers pass through at some stage. Whether you’re on your way out on safari, Kilimanjaro or here for a little longer, you’ll catch a glimpse of streets filled with energy and color.
Today’s trek begins in the lush rainforest, where vibrant foliage and diverse wildlife surround you as you make your way through the winding trails. This is the start of your unforgettable journey to Uhuru Peak, filled with excitement and breathtaking scenery.
Starting Point: Machame Gate at approximately 1,800 meters.
Finishing Point: Machame Camp at approximately 2,835 meters.
Distance: Approximately 11 kilometers (about 6.8miles).
Duration: Estimated at 5 to 7 hours.
Today’s trek takes you out of the rainforest and into a dramatic landscape of moorlands, with expansive views of Mount Meru and the Shira Plateau. The trail gradually ascends through open terrain, where you’ll start to feel the altitude while taking in the beauty of the unique alpine surroundings.
Starting Point: Machame Camp at an elevation of approximately 3,000 meters (9,842 feet).
Finishing Point: Shira 2 Camp at an elevation of approximately 3,850 meters (12,631feet).
Distance: Approximately 5 kilometers (about 3.1miles).
Duration: Estimated at 4 to 6 hours.
On Day 3, you'll journey from Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp, with the stunning landscape of the Lava Tower as a highlight.
As you ascend, you'll feel the altitude shift, but the incredible views of towering cliffs and sweeping valleys make every step worthwhile. This day is key for acclimatization, preparing you for the challenges ahead while soaking in the rugged beauty of Kilimanjaro. At Barranco Camp, you'll rest beneath the iconic Barranco Wall, a thrilling obstacle for the next day's climb.

Finishing Point: Barranco Camp at an elevation of approximately 3,960 meters (12,992 feet).
Distance: Approximately 10 kilometers (about 6.2 miles).
Duration: Estimated 6 to 8 hours.
Welcome to Day 4 of your Kilimanjaro climb as you move from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp.
Today’s journey takes you up the iconic Barranco Wall, a thrilling climb offering stunning views of the valley below. After conquering the wall, you’ll trek across a series of ridges, surrounded by dramatic landscapes, before arriving at Karanga Camp, where you'll rest and recharge for the next stage of your ascent.
Starting Point: Barranco Camp at an elevation of approximately 3,960 meters (12,992 feet).
Finishing Point: Karanga Camp at an elevation of approximately 4,040 meters (13,255 feet).
Distance: Approximately 5 kilometers (about 3.1 miles).
Duration: Estimated 4 to 5 hours.
Day 5 takes you from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp,
Where the landscape transitions to a rugged, alpine desert. As you ascend, the air thins and the trail becomes steeper, offering sweeping views of Mawenzi Peak and the plains below. Reaching Barafu, you'll prepare for the final push to the summit, resting and acclimatizing before the ultimate ascent to Uhuru Peak.
Starting Point: Karanga Camp at an elevation of approximately 4,040 meters (13,255 feet).
Finishing Point: Barafu Camp at an elevation of approximately 4,640 meters (15,223feet).
Distance: Approximately 4 kilometers (about 2.5 miles).
Duration: Estimated 3 to 4 hours.
From Barafu Camp, your summit push begins in the early hours under the stars, heading toward Uhuru Peak. The steep, rocky ascent tests your endurance, but the reward of reaching the highest point in Africa as the sun rises is unforgettable. After celebrating at the summit, you’ll descend back to Barafu for a brief rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp. At Mweka camp the air is thicker and the
surroundings begin to feel lush again, offering a well-earned rest after a monumental achievement.

On the final stretch from Mweka Camp to the Mweka Gate, you’ll descend through the lush montane forest, leaving the rocky alpine zones behind. The trail is gentler, and as you near the gate, the sounds of wildlife return, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure and your successful journey from summit to base.
