Before Remote Latin America, we invite you to discover the essence of Panama through a curated introduction to the country’s history, global significance, and extraordinary biodiversity.
You will explore the historic charm of Casco Antiguo, gain insight into how the Isthmus of Panama reshaped the natural world at the Biomuseo designed by Frank Gehry, and experience the engineering marvel of the Panama Canal from a privileged vantage point. The program also offers a journey into nature on the wildlife-rich waters of Gatun Lake, revealing why Panama is considered one of the most biodiverse places on Earth.
You will also explore Panama's culinary scene, learning why Panama City is considered by UNESCO as a Creative City in Gastronomy, stepping into some of Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants.
In the morning, you will be met by your English-speaking specialist guide for a stroll in the old town and explore Panama’s rich heritage in Casco Antiguo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, walking through historic squares, visit colonial monasteries, and soak in the old-world charm amidst a backdrop of modern Panama City. Enjoy the local culture with vibrant restaurants, museums and stunning architecture.
After lunch, your private transportation will transfer you to your VIP Panama Canal Experience. To approach this marvel of the modern world, a 3D IMAX presentation narrated by Morgan Freeman will bring the history of the Panama Canal to life. Then, witness the Canal’s lock system in action, with exclusive access to a restricted area, the sidewall of the locks, which is closed to the general public. This access allows visitors to get close to the locomotives that pull the ships through the Canal.
Guiding your Panama Canal visit will be an expert engineer with 45 years of experience working for the Panama Canal, who was the spokesperson for the canal’s expansion, ready to share unparalleled insights into its history, mechanics, and impact on global trade.
For dinner we can recommend from some of Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants, learning why Panama is recognized as a UNESCO Creative City in Gastronomy.
After breakfast, you will depart for a 45-minute drive that will lead you to Gamboa , where the Chagres River meets the Panama Canal. You will cruise across Gatun Lake on a comfortable boat, passing colossal cargo ships while observing local wildlife like sloths, monkeys, and toucans.
After lunch, you will later be transported for 45 minutes to the Amador Causeway for views of Panama City’s skyline and the world’s first Biodiversity museum (Biomuseo). In this Smithsonian affiliate interpretative museum you will learn about the connection between the Isthmus of Panama and the biodiversity around it. Also, how this small piece of land changed the world. This was the first museum designed by Frank Gehry in Latin America.
After the Amador Causeway, you will be transported back to your hotel.
