Begin in Arusha and trace northern Tanzania's most iconic ADV terrain — volcanic plains, wildlife corridors, and red-dust horizons that stretch as far as the eye can see.

Ride into the dramatic landscapes surrounding Lake Natron, one of East Africa's most otherworldly destinations, before dropping into the bustling village of Mto wa Mbu where the road comes alive with local color. Swap bikes for a 4x4 and go deep into Ngorongoro National Park — elephant country, ancient baobabs, and wildlife that makes you forget where you are.

Climb through the foothills of West Kilimanjaro with the mountain watching over every mile, skirt the edges of Arusha National Park, and descend into the untamed wilderness of Enduimet Wildlife Management Area. Cool off at Chemka Hot Springs — a hidden oasis of crystal clear water tucked beneath fig trees just outside Arusha — before riding back into town with ten days of Tanzania behind you.

Riding through Arusha town to Napuru Waterfalls blends a dash of urban buzz with a taste of wild mountain beauty. You’ll weave out of the city traffic, past markets and coffee estates on the lower slopes of Mount Meru, before the pavement gives way to winding dirt tracks shaded by thick forest. The air cools as you climb, and the sound of the waterfall grows louder long before you see it.

At Napuru, the bikes are parked and the pace slows—a short hike leads down to the base of the falls, where mist hangs in the air and the view opens into a lush green canyon. It’s a refreshing break from the ride, an easy mix of adrenaline and calm, and one of Arusha’s hidden gems tucked just beyond the city’s edge.

Leave the dust of Arusha behind and point your bike toward the foothills of Kilimanjaro. The tarmac gives way quickly — within minutes you are threading through red dirt tracks, past shamba farms and village life that most travelers never see.

Your first stop is Chemka Hot Springs — known locally as Kikuletwa — a hidden gem fed by underground springs and shaded by ancient fig trees. The crystal clear turquoise water is your reward before climbing back in the saddle.

From Chemka the road rises through coffee and banana plantations as the air cools and Kilimanjaro edges closer. Materuni Village sits on the mountain's lower slopes — a working Chagga community where coffee is grown, harvested, and roasted by hand. Sit with locals, drink the coffee you just watched being made, and take in the mountain from one of its most intimate vantage points.

This is the real Tanzania — felt through your handlebars, one backroad at a time.

From Materuni the road unwinds downhill and east toward Marangu — gateway to Kilimanjaro's most famous climbing route and a town worth a slow ride through. Then the route turns north, tracing the mountain's shoulder through Tarakea as the landscape opens up and the Kenyan border draws close.

Stop for lunch at the Welcome to Kenya sign — one of those only-on-a-moto moments where the absurdity of eating a roadside meal straddling two countries never gets old.

The afternoon takes you through local banana markets bursting with color and commerce before the pavement disappears for good. The final stretch into West Kilimanjaro is pure off-road — red dirt tracks threading through Maasai villages where cattle share the road and traditional bomas dot the hillside.

By the time you roll into camp the mountain is behind you and the wilderness is all around.

For the riders who can't switch off, saddle up and push deeper into Enduimet Wildlife Management Area. This is big game country — elephant, buffalo, and giraffe roam freely across open savanna with Kilimanjaro as your backdrop. No fences, no tour buses, just you and the African bush on two wheels.

For those who want to stretch their legs, a short guided hike through the surrounding wilderness offers a different pace and a closer look at the landscape you've been riding through. Your Maasai guides know every trail, every bird call, and every story the land has to tell.

Or do nothing at all. The pool is cold, the sun is warm, and the view of Kilimanjaro from your sun lounger is one you won't find in any five star resort.

Tomorrow brings one of the most spectacular riding days of the entire tour. Today is about being ready for it.

The ride out of Lake Natron is one of the great escapes — dusty volcanic plains giving way to the dramatic climb out of the Rift Valley as the road winds upward through the escarpment. The views back down toward the lake and Ol Doinyo Lengai get better with every switchback.

As the altitude rises so does the greenery. The landscape softens into rolling highland farmland, local villages, and the kind of twisty tarmac that reminds you why you ride. By the time Karatu appears you've crossed through three completely different worlds in a single day — volcanic desert, escarpment wilderness, and the lush crater highlands of northern Tanzania.

Karatu sits at the gateway to Ngorongoro and tonight it's your base camp. Clean up, eat well, and get ready — tomorrow is the big one.

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most extraordinary places on the planet — a collapsed volcanic caldera sheltering one of Africa's densest concentrations of wildlife within its walls. Today you trade two wheels for four and descend into the crater floor with a professional guide and a 4x4 built for the terrain.

Lion, elephant, buffalo, zebra, flamingo, and if the odds are with you, rhino — the crater delivers in a way that consistently stops even the most seasoned travelers in their tracks. All of it framed by the crater walls rising 600 meters on every side.

By afternoon you're back above the rim, the crater spread out below you, and tomorrow's riding already on your mind.

The road from Karatu back to Arusha winds through the crater highlands before dropping into the familiar rhythm of northern Tanzania's backroads — a final chance to soak in the landscapes, the smells, and the freedom that has defined the past ten days.

Ride through Mto wa Mbu one last time, past the roadside markets and the chaos and color that feels completely normal by now. If time allows, we will stop at Mungu Crater "God's Hole"

Tonight the bikes rest. The group gathers for one final dinner to raise a glass to the roads ridden, the moments that can't be photographed, and the friendships forged somewhere between the dust and the horizon.
