✊🏿 Explore with like-minded Black folks
🇬🇭 Immerse yourself in Ghanaian culture
It's been over 400 years since our ancestors were stolen from the shores of West Africa and brought to the Americas against their will.
We're returning to our ancestral home to connect with cool people, places, and experiences.

We design our trips with a mix of experiences that aren't 100% luxury or budget; we exist for Black travelers, our kinfolk, who enjoy both types of travel. Buoyant kinfolk are like bougie aunties & uncles who still love a good deal.
We splurge on a unique dining experience, but love street food. We adore well-designed spaces, like charming boutique hotels, and are excited to experience authentic, local experiences that help connect us with Black history and culture.
Most of all, we understand that the places we're visiting are layered and nuanced, so we travel knowing we are guests in someone's homes and respect the land and people as such.
Our kinfolk are adventurous, open-minded travelers who deeply value Black history and culture and are independent.
While we always provide quality customer service, we embed free time into the itinerary for exploring the destination on your own or relaxing and rejuvenating, because we know how important it is for many people to recharge on group trips.
We offer monthly payment plans. Our payment processing system, WeTravel, will list payment dates when booking. For this trip, payments must be made in equal monthly installments.
If you'd like to arrange a custom payment based on your preferred pay dates, please email us after booking at hello@buoyanttravel.com.

A passport with 6 months' validity remaining at the trip's start date
Things To Know
Yellow Fever: The Yellow Fever vaccination is an entry requirement for Ghana. While you don't need it to receive your visa, immigration officers will check for it upon entry. Vaccine prices (and whether insurance is accepted) can vary. I recommend using Passport Health or ZocDoc to locate a provider near you offering the vaccine.
Malaria Pills: Be sure to inform your provider that you're traveling to Ghana so they can write you a prescription for Malaria prevention pills. Some CVS Minute Clinics offer travel health consultations.
Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is required to attend this trip. You can read more about our policy here. We recommend Faye, but you're welcome to use a provider of your choice.
Cash: Cash is king in Ghana. Although most businesses accept cards, keeping cash on you will help you navigate the city more easily. Prepare by exchanging your currency for Ghanaian Cedis before traveling, using the exchange desk at Accra's airport, or withdrawing cash from a local ATM upon arrival.
Money Apps: To send money to local businesses and people in Accra, download Tap Tap Send, SendWave, and WorldRemit.
Rideshare Apps: Uber, Bolt, and Yango are the primary rideshare apps available in Accra. Plan to download them before traveling and use them during your free time for personal rides.
Phone Service: Contact your cell phone provider before traveling to ensure you have a working phone plan and roaming date while in Ghana. Or if you have an unlocked phone, plan to purchase an e-SIM.
Tolietries: Helpful toiletries to pack include: hand sanitizer, bug repellent, toilet paper, diarrhea relief medicine, and sunscreen.
Tech: Useful tech to pack includes: portable fan, portable charger, and a universal adapter.
