About your trip

A tour of Ghana, West Africa is one gift that will last for a lifetime. The spirit of celebration will be in the air. You will be free to tour or relax in one of the most beautiful countries in Africa! Explore the inspiration behind the independence movement of the country lead by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Enjoy the beach or a relaxing spa day at your hotel. We offer a suggested itinerary, but you will have the option to keep the exact details or be flexible to make room for holiday celebrations. We will also take two days to visit Cape Coast to have your Sankofa Return experience. Then, return to Accra for the Detty December events to bring in the New Year!

What's included

Lodging

Final hotels to be determined. Sample hotels: Movenpick, Coconut Grove, Alisa Hotel, Lancaster, or other.

Tour Guide

Transportation throughout Ghana with English speaking guide.

Single Entry Visa

A visa is required for entry into Ghana. Sankofa US will assist you in applying for your visa.

What's not included

Flight

Flight is not included in this package. We recommend booking your flight to depart the US on Dec 27th and return from Ghana on Jan 4th. Flights are often overnight.

Travel Vaccinations

The Yellow Fever vaccination is required for entry into Gnana. You can get the required inoculation at a "travel clinic" near you.

Trip insurance

Sankofa US contracts with Allianz Travel Insurance, however, travel insurance is at your own expense.

Meals

Lunch and dinner is at your own expense. Breakfast is included with hotel stays only.

Most flights are overnight, the tour will begin on the next day. 

Sample flight is an evening flight from Chicago to New York to Accra with the same return itinerary. 



Day 2

Welcome and Accra City Tour

 

Type of Day: Low Impact

Attire: Comfortable wear

Breakfast at the Hotel

Departure: 10:00 am 

Enjoy the festive holiday season in Accra, Ghana. 


Spend the morning relaxing until check in. 

Details to be determined once flight arrival details are confirmed. 

It we tour, by 3pm local time you will return to the hotel for rest and dinner.

Day 3

Cape Coast Day


Type of Day: Medium Impact (bus travel, walking)

Attire: Celebratory White

Breakfast at the hotel

Departure for the Central Region 

Travel for 2-3 hours to Cape Coast to explore the Slave Dungeon.


Check in to the Coconut Grove Beach Hotel


Drive along the coast through several fishing villages and coconut lined beaches. Visit the Cape Coast Castle which was originally started by the Swedes in 1652.


The Cape Coast Castle served as the headquarters and seat of the British colonial government until 1877


We will also visit Elmina Castle erected by the Portuguese in 1482, one of the most important stops on the route of the Atlantic slave trade.   



Day 4

Assin Manso


Type of Day: Low Impact

Attire: Comfortable Wear

 

Departure: 9:00 am

Village of Samaan (bring school supplies and other donated items for the service project)


Visit the village of Saaman to tour the traditional farming village and gain insights on their educational system.


Visit to the Slave River (Assin Manso)


Travel to Assin Manso the “Slave River” which was the last rest stop for the captives on their “one-way” trek to the slave dungeons along the Coast.


Dinner at the hotel.

Day 5

Cape Coast to Accra


Type of Day: High Impact (walking, climbing)

Attire: Comfortable and durable wear; walking shoes

Departure: 9:00 am

Check out of the hotel.


Travel back to Accra and continue to the Arts and Crafts Market for a wide variety of Ghanaian hand-crafted items. Complete the Accra city tour: Notational Museum and historic Jamestown walking tour if time allows.

Prepare for an New Year's Eve celebration: detail will be shared soon.

Back in Accra

Attire: Casual/Comfortable Wear


Head Back to Accra


Last full da in Ghana!!! 

Travel back to Accra and continue to the Arts and Crafts Market for a wide variety of Ghanaian hand-crafted items. 

Complete the Accra city tour: Notational Museum and historic Jamestown walking tour.



Farewell Dinner and Naming Ceremony at the hotel.

City Tour/Aburi


Type of Day: Medium impact


After breakfast, complete the Accra city tour or visit Aburi Botanical Garden and December events!


Points of Interests include: Independent Square, Black Star Monument, Jamestown, and more. (Subject to Change).

Day 8

Final Day: Farewell Celebration & Naming Ceremony


Type of day: Low impact


This day we will tour the Aburi Botanical Gardens and spend the afternoon in Osu for shopping.

Head back to the hotel to prepare for a night on the town to bring in 2025!!!!

Day 9

Last Day in Ghana

Spend the day relaxing and prepare for the late night flight back to your place of residence. 


The day is open for you. Our Team will be available assist you or just take the time to relax on your own. 


Most return flights are overnight flights that require a 6:00pm airport check in.

Back in the US

If you book your flight for January 4th you will most likely arrive back in the US from your overnight flight.

The Accra details will be solidified once we get closer to the dates to allow flexibility for the December events.
