Transfers will be in a registered and authorized vehicle by the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism and transportation authorities. Our drivers are highly experienced and speak Spanish. If you travel by shuttle, transfers will include other travelers and will have a fixed schedule and stops. If you travel by private transfers, there will be more flexibility.

BOOKING AND CANCELLATION POLICY FOR ONE DAY TOURS AND EXPERIENCES

If you need to cancel your day trip package, please email us at hola@etnicatravel.com with “Cancellation” in the email title. Cancellations will only be effective when we receive a written confirmation of your decision to cancel the package.

If you cancel your package at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled departure time, you may be eligible for a refund. However, if you cancel less than 48 hours before the scheduled departure time, no refunds will be available. We reserve the right to assess other refund possibilities based on the circumstances of the cancellation. Please note that an email stating your desire to cancel your package is an irrevocable notice, and you will not be able to change your mind once you have sent this notice, even if we have not yet acknowledged the cancellation in writing. We understand that sometimes unforeseen circumstances can arise, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs within our cancellation policy guidelines. If you have any questions or concerns about our cancellation policy, please do not hesitate to contact us.

BOOKING AGREEMENT FOR MULTI-DAY TOURS AND PACKAGES

A booking is only effective and confirmed once a deposit has been paid by the customer/traveler. Once we collect your deposit or initial payment, we will proceed to confirm all offered services with our local partners and suppliers.

For group bookings, we will make an initial temporary hold on hotels; this reservation will have a deadline to confirm room blocks with an initial down payment, respecting the dates defined by the hotels. In the case of FIT (Foreign Independent Travel) bookings, we will only make room blocks and proceed to reserving hotels once we collect a deposit or initial installment payment as a guarantee. All hotels mentioned in trip proposals are subject to dates and availability. If by any chance we need to change hotels once you’ve booked, we will notify you in advance and will choose an accommodation option that is the same category and pricing.

Once we confirm your booking with the deposit or installment payment, we proceed to securing all offered services. In the case of FIT travelers (Foreign Independent Travel), all payment installments must be completed 15 days prior to the arrival date in Guatemala or Mexico. In the case of groups, all payment installments must be completed 30 days prior to the arrival date in Guatemala or Mexico. Ten days prior to arrival, we will share the detailed travel program and pre-departure recommendations.

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES AND LIABILITY DISCLAIMER

We act as an intermediary between travelers and independent service providers, including but not limited to transportation companies, accommodation providers, local guides, activity operators, and other third-party vendors. While we take all reasonable measures to ensure the quality, safety, and reliability of these services, we do not own, operate, control, or manage these third parties.

By booking an experience with us, you acknowledge and agree that:

1. Limited Liability: Etnica is not responsible for any loss, damage, injury, delay, accident, or irregularity caused by third-party providers. Any issues arising from their services must be resolved directly with the respective provider.
2. Service Changes & Cancellations: Third-party providers may modify, cancel, or adjust services due to unforeseen circumstances, including but not limited to weather conditions, operational issues, or safety concerns. Etnica is not liable for any resulting inconvenience, additional costs, or compensation claims.
3. Assumption of Risk: Certain experiences involve inherent risks, including but not limited to physical activities, natural hazards, and variable local conditions. By participating, you assume full responsibility for any associated risks and agree that Etnica is not liable for injuries, damages, or losses incurred during these activities.
4. Provider Terms & Conditions: Each third-party provider has its own terms, conditions, and liability policies. By using their services, you agree to comply with their specific regulations and policies.

We strongly recommend that all travelers obtain comprehensive travel insurance that covers trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and other unforeseen circumstances.

TRAVEL INSURANCE, SAFETY, AND DAMAGES

Each traveler/customer is responsible for acquiring valid travel insurance that will provide coverage for medical emergencies and any incidents during their travels. We are not responsible for international travel delays, missing luggage, or cancellations.

Be advised we do not operate overnight ground transfers or conduct long ground transfers during nighttime.

High-risk activities such as active volcano hikes, paragliding, and other active adventures may require you to sign a liability waiver. If this is not signed, we cannot be responsible for your participation in such activities, and it will be your responsibility to book them.

The hotels and accommodation services used during your trip have established evacuation plans and safety procedures, which we will adhere to while using their facilities. These establishments also manage their own internal rules regarding the use of their facilities and amenities. Damage to the room, linens, furniture, and equipment may incur an extra charge by the lodging establishments. Covering any damage costs is the sole responsibility of the traveler. This will also apply to damages to any equipment used during tours and transportation vehicles.

ENTRY TO GUATEMALA AND MEXICO

Check the validity of your personal travel documents and whether you require a visa for visiting Guatemala or Mexico. If this is the case, each traveler/customer is responsible for acquiring a valid travel visa before booking a trip and making a payment. We do not provide invitation letters or any documentation for such procedures.

Guatemalan or Mexican authorities may require upon entry:

• A copy of your itinerary (printed or digital)
• The trip payment receipt (printed or digital)

CANCELLATIONS

To cancel a package for which you have made a booking, please email us at hola@etnicatravel.com stating your order reference and “Cancellation” in the email title. You may telephone us to discuss your desire to cancel the package, but cancellation will only be effective when we have received written confirmation from the person who purchased the package. An email to us stating that you desire to cancel a package is an irrevocable notice, and you cannot subsequently change your mind, even if we have not yet acknowledged the cancellation in writing.

If you cancel your tour:

• We will apply the airline’s cancellation policy to any flights in your package and reimburse your ground arrangements in accordance with the penalty timeline.
• For cancellation of ground-only arrangements:
  
  • (a) 90 days or more prior to the stated departure date, we will retain an administrative fee of $100 per traveler and reimburse the remaining amount.
  • (b) Between 30 and 89 days prior to the stated departure date, we will retain 50% of the total booking cost and reimburse the remaining amount.
  • (c) Less than 30 days prior to departure, we will retain 100% of the price paid by you for the package.

If we cancel a package due to terrorism, natural disasters, political instability, or other external events, you may choose between (i) applying the amounts paid towards an alternative trip or (ii) receiving a full refund. We are not responsible for incidental expenses such as visas, vaccinations, or non-refundable flights.

AMENDMENTS TO BOOKED PACKAGES

If you wish to change the date, route, services, or itinerary:

• (a) $100 per traveler if done at least 90 days prior to departure, subject to availability.
• (b) $300 per traveler if done between 30 and 89 days prior to departure, subject to availability.

No amendments or name changes are permitted within 29 days of departure. Changes requested during the trip that incur additional expenses are the client's responsibility.

Welcome to Guatemala! Your private transfer from Guatemala City Airport will take you to the charming colonial city of Antigua Guatemala (approx. 1.5 to 2 hours). Enjoy a relaxing evening exploring the town and trying some local cuisine. Exciting adventures await you tomorrow!

Start your day off with a delicious Guatemalan breakfast. You'll enjoy a guided visit of Antigua's charming streets, markets, ruins and  main highlights. You'll discover the charming architecture and history of Antigua, all while basking in the warm hospitality of the locals. After a day of exploring, you'll have a free evening to unwind.

Included morning activity: 3 hour guided walk of Antigua's main highlights with an English-speaking guide, includes entrance fee to the Cathedral ruins. 

Optional afternoon activities: Cacao chocolate bar workshop or zip-line in a nature park in Antigua. 

Live the ultimate adventure when you hike Pacaya volcano, one of the three active volcanoes in Guatemala.  This hands-on  tour is suitable for hikers of different ages and expertise. It will bring you up close to petrified lava trails, volcanic rock formations and incredible panoramic views of the surroundings.  As you hike, you'll witness the effects of constant volcanic activity, and if the conditions are favorable get clear skies for overlooking the other volcanoes in the area. Visit the Lava store for a memorable souvenir and enjoy roasting marshmallows in one of the rock ovens.  Once the excursion is over, you'll return to Antigua, feeling exhilarated and accomplished after conquering an active volcano. 

Included activity: Pacaya volcano hike, includes transportation, mandatory national park guide, specialized English-speaking guide, entrance fees and boxed lunch. 

Today you will venture to a small village outside Antigua for an exceptional culinary experience. You’ll visit a local family who will open the doors of their home and share their traditional cooking techniques with you. Learn how to move around in a Guatemalan kitchen, and prepare a local dish that is usually prepared for  special occasions. Experience firsthand the use of traditional methods and utensils in the preparation of authentic Guatemalan cuisine, accompanied by fresh and local ingredients. Learn insights about the culture, regional ingredients, local produce, and flavors. Taste your creation for lunch with your hosts before continuing your travels to the heart of Lake Atitlan. Free afternoon to begin exploring the area. 

Included morning activity: Cooking class with a local family, includes transportation, a copy of the recipe, local ingredients, utensils for the class, contribution to social project visited, and English-speaking guide.

Embark on a boat ride across the waters of Lake Atitlan to the captivating town of San Juan la Laguna. Surrounded by primitive art, beautiful textiles and majestic views, San Juan will give you a warm welcome and the opportunity to interact and learn the way of life and customs of its T’zutujil villagers. You will take a guided visit to local associations where you'll learn the process of natural dyeing and textiles, the use of medicinal plants, cacao production, stingless beekeeping, and the background and evolution of naif art.  You'll also have the option of visiting the Kaqasiiwaan lookout that has amazing lake views and was handpainted by the community's artists. After the tour feel free to explore the town on your own before heading back to your hotel. Free evening. 

Included activity: Guided boat trip and visit of San Juan la Laguna, includes English-speaking guide and private boat transfer.

Optional activity: Visit to San Juan's colorful viewpoint, this can be arranged with your guide that day. 

Venture on a guided kayak expedition where you will admire the incredible views of the surrounding mountains, and volcanoes. You will have the opportunity of swimming and  jumping in the lake’s refreshing waters, before arriving to the community of T'zununá. Once you arrive to the docks of T'zununá you will leave the kayaks and you will make your way hiking back to Santa Cruz! The trails will offer you amazing views of the lake and will allow you to witness the calm life of the local farmers and fishermen that work in the area. Be advised this hike requires you to go up steep hills and narrow trails, if it gets challenging at any point you'll have the option of getting back on the boat. Enjoy having lunch in one of the restaurants in the area before returning to your hotel for the afternoon.

Spend the day relaxing by the lake shores and exploring Lake Atitlán at your own pace. Go to the art-filled and colorful town of Santa Catarina Palopo or venture to the bohemian streets of San Marcos la Laguna and go swimming in the nature reserve.

Optional activities: Guided visit of Santa Catarina and San Antonio Palopo, or hiking and cliff-jumping in San Marcos la Laguna.  

Explore the heart of Guatemalan trade on a guided tour of Chichicastenango market day. Say goodbye to the lake and prepare to immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere and bustling energy of a place where artisans, farmers, and travelers come together to offer all sorts of crafts, textiles, local produce, and living traditions. Discover the colorful cemetery and historic Santo Tomás Church, witness Maya syncretism and cosmovision rituals. Shop for unique and authentic crafts and textiles, and taste the local produce that reflects the rich cultural heritage of the region. Indulge in a traditional market day rustic lunch, and then take time to explore on your own, soaking in the sights, sounds, and flavors of market day. After this experience, you will travel to Guatemala City airport (3.5 hours approx). Upon arrival, you'll take a short flight to the Maya Biosphere Reserve. Once you land, you'll transfer to your hotel hidden in the lush jungles.

Included activity: Chichicastenango market day visit, includes English-speaking guide and private transportation. 

Enjoy breakfast and a slow paced morning.  At noon, you'll meet your local guide and will  head to Yahxá National Park. Prepare to immerse yourself in off the beaten path jungle trails surrounded by the sounds of wildlife. This national park is located between two impressive lagoons and is one of the most biodiverse wetlands of Guatemala. First, you will take the boat to Topoxté Island, a small off-the beaten track minor site in the park and then you will go through the vast jungle and structures of Yahxá . You will culminate your visit admiring the sunset over the tallest temple in the site. Head back to your hotel in Flores Island for the evening. 

Included activity: Guided sunset visit to Yaxhá and Topoxté, includes boat transfer, specialized English-speaking guide, entrance fees and lunch (drinks not included). 

Prepare for an adventure and boat trip to the Blue Crater. You’ll transfer to the village of Josefinos where you will take a speed boat through the uncharted La Pasión River all the way to the Pucté creek where the colors of the water start to change. You will arrive at the "Crater Azul" a surreal subaquatic garden and pristine fresh blue water pools where you will be spending your day swimming surrounded by nature. In the afternoon you will head to Tikal National Park for a quiet evening in the lush jungles. 

Included activity: Boat trip to Crater Azul, includes private boat transfer, cooler with drinks, mask rental and boxed lunch. 

Begin your day with the sounds of howler monkeys as you get ready for an excursion to explore the ancient Maya kingdom of Tikal before it opens. You will be able to explore the park in the dark and walk to the tallest temple to watch the sunrise. This is a magical experience. Tikal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for both its cultural and natural significance. Keep your eyes open for wildlife when you explore the ancient Maya trails. After a unique expedition you will continue your journey to Río Dulce (approx. 4 hours). Enjoy your first taste of Caribbean cuisine for lunch and get ready to take a boat to your eco-hotel hidden amongst the canals of the river. Free evening to relax in a hammock listening to the jungle sounds.

Take the boat to the colorful town of Livingston, home of the Garífuna, descendants of the African population that came to Guatemala during colonial times. Your local guide will teach you about the culture and history while admiring the murals and urban art in town. You'll also have the option of visiting a local school and non-profit for Maya and Garifuna students who wish to gain experience in rural development and sustainability. Visiting the school shares insight on Guatemala's social context and supports the mission and impact in the area. You'll also pass through the towering Rio Dulce canyon and will admire the main highlights of this unique boat ride. Enjoy lunch in one of the riverbank local venues before returning to your hotel for a refreshing swim. Free evening.

Embark once again on panoramic boat ride down the Rio Dulce. Take in the lush tropical scenery and reflect on the unforgettable memories made during your adventure. A ground transfer will be ready and waiting to take you on a comfortable and scenic drive back to Guatemala City. The drive will be approximately 6 hours depending on traffic with stops to use the bathroom and eat. Marvel at the stunning landscapes you'll pass through, while reminiscing about the highlights of your vacation. Spend your last evening soaking up the city's atmosphere and celebrate your last night in Guatemala with a leisurely dinner.
