Spending Money

These are all included: your hotel, airport transfers, tours, admissions, transportation, breakfasts and three lunches.

You will need at least $170-$200, to pay for:

1. Three dinners - average $10-$20 each.

2. Visa - $25 USD for your visa upon arrival.

3. Tips - You can estimate these at $115, and here is a breakdown:
DRIVERS- Airport transfers -$4 USD x 2 = $8
 DRIVERS - Daily tours - $5 USD x 3 = $15
 LUGGAGE PORTERS - $2 USD x 2 = $4
  AIRPORT AGENTS - $5 USD x 2 = $10
 RESTAURANT STAFF - $3 USDx6 = $18
TOUR GUIDES - $20 USD per day x 3 days = $60

You will need more money if you choose any of these optional offerings:

· Optional Sound and Light Show at the Pyramids: lights illuminate the ancient monuments. $45.

· Optional entry inside the Great Pyramid – 360 Egyptian pounds (about $22)

· Optional entry into the Mummy Room in the Egyptian Museum - 180 Egyptian pounds (about $11)

· Optional photo permit inside the Egyptian Museum - 50 Egyptian pounds (about $3)

You will also need money for drinks and souvenirs, and only you know how much you’ll need for those!!

Merchants in the souks do not take credit cards, so you will need cash for purchases in the marketplaces. (Larger stores and shops for larger/better quality items such as rugs, jewelry, papyrus, alabaster, and essential oils DO take credit cards).

I recommend bringing a bunch of one dollar bills (25-50) to use for tips and small purchases.

Activity Level

This program is active. Walking is done over uneven surfaces and steps. Expect most days of sightseeing to require three to four hours of walking as well as a considerable time standing. Our vehicles have set drop off and pick up points, that result in extra walking to and from the sights. The pacing is active as many sites are included.

The Great Pyramids: Last Surviving Wonder of the Ancient World!

What better way to begin your tour of amazing Egypt than with a visit to the Great Pyramids of Giza!

These three phenomenal pyramids served as monumental burial sites where the Ancient Egyptian kings were buried.  You will have the option to enter into the biggest and most famous - the Great Pyramid of Cheops.

We'll take a brief Camel Ride in front of the Pyramids with individual and group portraits!

Visit the Great Sphinx.

After lunch at an authentic Egyptian restaurant, we'll have a shopping opportunity at a Papyrus art gallery.

This afternoon we will visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities. It contains the world’s most extensive collection of pharaonic antiquities, including all the riches from King Tut’s tomb.

Memphis and Sakkara

This morning we will drive 12 miles from Giza to Memphis, which was the capital of ancient Egypt. Here we'll visit the Memphis Colossus of Ramses, an enormous statue of the king about 34 feet long carved in limestone; and the Alabaster Sphinx, the second largest sphinx in Egypt. Carved between 1700 and 1400 BC, the Sphinx is 26 feet long and 13 feet tall and weighs around 90 tons.

Then on to Sakkara, one of the most extensive archaeological sites in Egypt, and the cemetery for the capital city of Memphis. Here we'll visit:

• Step Pyramid, the oldest known of Egypt's 97 pyramids. It was built for King Djoser (2667-2648 BC) by the architect genius Imhotep, and consists of six terraces some 200 feet high.

• Mastaba tomb of Ka-Gmni, who was a judge and a priest. The reliefs found in this tomb are amazingly rich in detail.

• Enter King Teti's Pyramid, which was originally 172 feet high. Climb down a shaft into the burial chamber, which is richly carved with thousands of hieroglyphs.

We'll stop for lunch at an authentic Egyptian restaurant.

Shopping opportunity: Egyptian Carpet school.

We will spend the afternoon visiting Dahshur, a royal necropolis 25 miles south of Cairo. We will visit two of the oldest, largest and best preserved pyramids in Egypt.

The Bent Pyramid (built 2613 – 2589 BC), was the first attempt at building a smooth sided pyramid, but was unsuccessful. The second pyramid built in Dahshur, the Red Pyramid, rises to a height of 341 feet and perfected smooth sides. The building of these two pyramids was an important learning experience for the Egyptians, and led to the know-how to build the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Cairo Tour

After breakfast at the hotel, we'll visit the Citadel of Saladin, a medieval Islamic fortification in Cairo. Inside the Citadel, we'll visit the spectacular  Alabaster Mosque, commissioned by Muhammad Ali Pasha in 1830.

We'll go on to visit the Hanging Church, one of the oldest churches in Egypt, the Ben Ezra Synagogue, and the Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus, believed to be where Mary, Joseph and Jesus visited after their journey into Egypt.

Lunch at an authentic Egyptian restaurant.

Shopping opportunity: Essential oils and art glass.

We will spend the afternoon at Khan el Kahlili Bazaar, a major souk (market) in the Islamic district of Cairo. It is significantly geared towards tourists, with shops that sell souvenirs, antiques and jewelry. Many traditional workshops also operate in the area, such as the goldsmiths' souk, which is still important for locals.  It has been an active marketplace since the late 15th century!
