Jelani Women Travel is the TOMS® of service travel for Black women and girls. When women sign up for an epic vacation with a purpose across 13 destinations in Africa, underserved teen girls have an opportunity to participate in the Jelani Girls cultural enrichment program, culminating in their very own international travel experience.

Women choose us as a way to travel because they want to discover the world's unbeaten path alongside other service-minded women The new friendships created when empowered women who want to vacation with a purpose get together is pure #blackgirlmagic!

Please note that 90 days prior to your trip you will be invited to a private Facebook group where you can access the following: 

-Detailed itinerary

-Virtual introductions with other women who will also be participating in our service trip (Note that our service day will be different than in the past as we will not be able to gather in large groups with the children. We will still be able to come together to deliver gifts and make an impact on an orphanage in need.)

-A safety conference call to discuss precautions the group will take to travel

 Arrive in Dakar (DSS) by 5PM or earlier on December 12, 2021 and depart after 1PM on December 18,  2021 for Senegal only or depart after 6PM on December 20,  2021 for The Gambia.  We can book additional hotel nights for you upon request should you decide to fly in earlier before the trip starts or leave later after the trip is over.

*Note: Individuals who purchase double occupancy and traveling without a roommate, will be paired with a roommate if available on a first come first serve basis. If a roommate is not available, you will be required to upgrade to single occupancy.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to trip start date will be subject to the following terms:

$0-$499 (non-refundable and non-transferable)                                                                                     

Any remaining balance paid over the non-refundable amount of $499 is refundable.

Cancellations of confirmed bookings 89 days or less prior to trip start date will be subject to the following terms:

Loss of 100% of program price.

Check in to our hotel and be welcomed with a Senegalese cocktail on the rooftop as you take in the panoramic ocean views and prepare to meet other Jelani Women for a family style dinner.

Wake up ready to explore the city's most iconic areas and learn about the rich history of Senegal. Take in the sights and sounds of Dakar on a guided tour where you will be introduced to its French colonial architecture, lively markets and the famous Renaissance Monument. Taste the flavors of West Africa in traditional Senegalese cuisines such as Mafe, Yassa, and Thieboudienne.

Spend time serving youth who are waiting to meet you. We will bring them gifts and food based on the requests of their care takers. We do not have to speak the same language in order for others to know that we care about them. Spend the rest of the day relaxing on a rooftop overlooking the coast in good company with your new travel sisters!

Relax on the ferry as we travel to Goree Island to pay homage to our ancestors. We return as freed people to a place that was once named The Door of No Return for enslaved Africans who were kept underneath the mansion before being shipped to the Americas. It is a pilgrimage that is a privilege to be able to experience.

After breakfast, learn how to create different African head wrap styles. Use your free time to relax on the long sandy beach with its calm clear waters and listen to the sounds of the ocean or join us for a surf lesson under the African sun.

Travel to one of Senegal's most popular sites and experience the phosphorus Lac Rose also known as Pink Lake filled with beautiful men working in it. With sand dunes and the beach's shore as your backdrop, visit a Fulani village and get a chance to meet a Chief before returning to Dakar for your last night out on the town.

Enjoy a farewell breakfast in the hotel before getting final souvenirs and specialty items from the bustling Sandaga market or continue your journey onward to The Gambia  for a deeper connection to West Africa. We cannot cross a country's borders and miss a new opportunity to shop.  Who can resist a chance to say that their latest statement piece of jewelry or African designed clothing is from none other than The Gambia? Explore the city on a tour where your local expert guide will help you negotiate the best deals in Albert market.

Rest and relaxation will be in full effect as you wake up in the smallest mainland country in Africa to experience the beautiful less traveled Kololi beach.
