About your trip

 In the northern Amazon region and the reserve is the largest and the deepest jungle of Ecuador: The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, where they will experience the adventure directly with nature. For lovers of nature and also the adventure seekers a trip in this part of the Amazon is very important. On a tour of 9 days and 8 nights hiking and canoeing in the jungle will be unique in their lives, learn ancient knowledge of the Amazonian flora, while countless species of wild life will cross their paths.

Day 1

Upon arrival at the Cuyabeno bridge,

  

  

 After travelling to Lago Agrio by bus or plane, you will be transported to Puerto Chiritza where a motorized canoe will be waiting for you to begin your journey down the Aguarico River. You will travel to Puca Peña where we will set up camp for the night with a native family or camp on a large beach on the banks of the river. The evening will include dinner and camping. 

Day 2

Visit community

 After breakfast and packing up our camp, we will continue to travel down the Aguarico River to Playas de Cuyabeno, an indigenous community. There, you will be able to admire the customs, way of life, and different handicrafts that this community offers. You will also see the junction of the two rivers Cuyabeno and Aguarico. After crossing this point, we will look for the perfect spot to set up camp and pass the night during our adventure in the jungle. 

Day 3

Lagarto Cocha

  

  

 After a delicious breakfast we will continue our journey, passing different military control points on the Aguarico River. Upon reaching the border of Peru and Ecuador, we will navigate down the Lagarto Cocha River in search of pink river dolphins and one of the largest mammals and most fragile species in the Amazon river region, the manatee. We will set up camp for the night in the jungle of the Amazon basin followed by dinner and camping.

Expedition Laguna Delfin cocha,

 

  

 After breakfast at 8:00, we will take a hike through the jungle with a native guide who will explain to us the different types of medicinal plants found throughout the hike. Furthermore, we might be able to spot monkeys, parrots, macaws, and with special attention we could come across the tracks of mammals such as tapirs, pacas, and tigers from the trail. Following lunch, you will be able to enjoy the refreshing waters of laguna delfin cocha, “the Lake of the Dolphins,” and look for a spot to practice fishing for piranhas. You will also have the opportunity to swim with the pink river dolphins in the warm waters of the lake. After dinner we will search for caimans in the canoe with weather conditions, the level of the river, and other factors according to the guide, permitting. 

Day 5

Bird Watching- Aguarico River

  

  

 
For bird lovers, you will have the opportunity to go for a walk very early to observe the majestic sounds of the jungle waking up. Following this walk we will return to our campsite for a delicious breakfast before returning back up the Aguarico River and turning down the Cuyabeno River to reach our campsite at Aguas Negras.

Visit a traditional Shaman

 Before breakfast, we will have another opportunity to take an early morning walk to observe the differences between a wetland jungle terrain and the dry land terrain. After breakfast, we will visit a lookout tower where you will be able to observe the canopy of the Amazon Rainforest. We will return to camp for lunch before continuing our journey to visit a traditional Shaman where we will view a ceremony and set up camp for the night.

Laguna Grande

 After breakfast we will continue to navigate up the Cuyabeno River to the lakes region. During the course of the trip we will stop for a boxed lunch to fuel us for the long trip. In the afternoon we will reach a new campsite from where we will leave to watch the sunset over the Laguna Grande.

Cuyabeno River Lodge

 Bird lovers will have another opportunity to observe various species of very early in the morning. After returning to the campsite for breakfast, we will practice rowing in quillas. We will visit two more lakes, Pato cocha and Garzo cocha, on our way to the last stop located near the Cuyabeno bridge- the Cuyabeno River Lodge.

Check out

 Breakfast will be served early in the morning. During the day, you will be able to choose an activity that you enjoyed most during the trip (hiking, fishing, canoeing, etc.) and do it again. After lunch, you will take a bus back to Lago Agrio or to Quito if you would like a direct bus.
