Arrive and Settle

Arriving in Tanzania is quite an experience in and of itself. Take time to arrive and settle into your surroundings. We will join together in the afternoon for an opening circle and dinner to welcome everyone to the retreat.

You will stay at the Amani Light Wellness Eco Retreat. Situated about 45 minutes from Moshi town, this retreat is nestled in nature with expansive views. It invites the visitor to slow down and take in the rhythm of the culture and life that we can see all around.

A little about the retreat space: At Amani Light, we embrace sustainable living. Our accommodations feature thoughtfully designed spaces that prioritize eco-conscious practices. We aim to preserve water, as our neighbors still walk many kilometers to fetch water; however, we ensure all guests are comfortable with the following amenities:

  • Bucket Showers: Water is heated over a fire each evening and placed in a self-directed spout system for refreshing showers. Choose between private indoor showers or a serene outdoor, roofless shower under the stars.

  • Compost Toilets: An eco-friendly solution to conserve water while maintaining cleanliness and comfort.

  • Hand Washing Stations: Buckets with taps are filled by our staff and placed in rooms for convenient use.

Cooking Experience

Begin your morning watching the sunrise over Mt. Kilimanjaro. An early morning yoga practice will work out any aches and pains from travel, and leave you feeling grounded in the earth and your new environment. After breakfast, you will drive to town and explore the local markets. Take in the tastes and vibrant colors of the market, and then head to the village to be welcomed into the heart and home of the women who will teach you to cook authentic Tanzanian food. Enjoy your meal together when it is all prepared!

Drive back to the retreat site for yoga or meditation as the sun sets.

Day 3

Traditional Medicines

Begin your morning with a healing yoga practice. After breakfast, take off on a nature walk to learn from a Maasai herbalist about how the Maasai traditionally use plants in their medicinal practices. When you return, you will make some of the medicines, boiled over the fire, and try some...see if you can cure what ails you with these traditional medicines :-)

Day 4 - 6

Safari!

Depart early in the morning on Day 4 (optional VERY EARLY yoga session). The safari will include game drive in Tarangire National Park (Day 4), and Ngorongoro Crater (Day 5), and Manyara National Park (day 6) with astonishing views and experienced guides. We partner with Caracal Safaris to deliver a one of a kind experience.

The Ngorongoro Crater is home to Africa's Big Five;  lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo & elephant – as well as large resident populations of giraffe, hyena, several species of antelope.

Each evening at the lodge, there will be evening activities such as a fireside chat, watercolor painting, and expressive journaling options. Take time each evening to internalize your day and begin to explore all of the facets of healing that you would like to achieve.
