We arrive in Shanghai today. Upon Arrival, greet our local tour guide at the arrival hall and transfer to your hotel. You will have free time to rest, relax and acclimate to your new time zone.
Today you will visit the Bund. Shanghai is divided by the Huang Pu River into eastern and western sections. Modern mega high rises are seen on the eastern side while traditional European style architecture may be seen on the western side. The Bund is a five-block riverfront promenade with many of Shanghai’s banks and trading houses. In the afternoon, we will drive you to Suzhou, which dates back to 514 BC, and is sometimes called the "Venice of the East". You will visit Shan Tang Street, which has always been regarded as the first name of Suzhou ancient streets. It has a long history of about 1100 years, its layout and architecture are the best to represent the characteristics of Suzhou's old alleys, and it has connections to many ancient Chinese celebrities and anecdotes.
Today you will visit the Lingering Garden (#2 of 353 things to do in Suzhou), and the Silk Spinning Factory. The Lingering Garden is a renowned classical Chinese garden and is recognized with other classical Suzhou gardens as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. China is known for its silk, so for sure, we will take you to the Silk Spinning Factory. Then, we'll drive to Hangzhou. Take a small boat ride on the West Lake which reveals the ethereal beauty of Hangzhou’s willow draped islands. You will admire the Su Causeway. It was built in the fifth year of the Yuanyou Period in the Northern Song Dynasty (1090) and has evolved since then. At that time, Su Shi (Dongpo), a poet known as the perfect in Hangzhou Prefecture, had the West
Lake dredged and built the Su Causeway by dredging silt. Hangzhou hosted The G20 summit in September 2016.
After a stop at the Green Tea Village, we will then drive you to Shanghai to visit Nanjing road and Xintiandi.
In the evening, you can take an optional tour for a Huangpu River Cruise $.
OR
In the afternoon, you can take an optional tour to Xi’an ($490/person)
For those who stay in Shanghai, it will be a FREE DAY to relax at the hotel or do some last minute shopping.
For those who sign up for Xi’an Optional tour with lunch:
Xian tour - According to UNESCO, the TerraCotta Warriors and Horses are the Eighth Wonder of the World. Today's excursion will take you to modern China's greatest archaeological discovery – The TerraCotta Warriors and Horses, which silently guarded the tomb of China's First Emperor for over 2,200 years. Next you'll head to the Terracotta Replication Factory that actually re-made terracotta soldiers.
Later, transfer to the airport to board a flight back to Shanghai.
Day at leisure until transfer to board the 5 night cruise aboard Royal Caribbean Spectrum of the Seas.
Board cruise to Japan
Fukuoka, on the northern shore of Japan's Kyushu Island, is known for ancient temples and beautiful beaches. Explore the 17th-century ruins of Fukuoka Castle in Maizuru Park. Then head to the central Hakata district, home to Tocho-ji Temple, where a 10-meter wooden Buddha sits. Cruise to Fukuoka and dive deeper into history at the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum, with displays on daily life in the Meiji and Taisho eras. Slurp ramen noodles in rich tonkotsu broth at one of the city's yatai (outdoor food stalls), then walk it off with a stroll along the winding canals. Pop into Shofukuji Zen temple for some quiet reflection. Or embrace the bustle instead and head to Canal City Hakata, one of Japan's largest shopping complexes.
Kumamoto City offers insight into both Japan's samurai past and its modern-day love of kawaii cuteness. Check out the city's old downtown area dominated by Kumamoto Castle, a reconstruction of the fortress from which samurai lords ruled their domain. Cruise to Kumamoto and walk alongside the Shirakawa River past traditional Japanese gardens the homes of prominent 19th- and 20th-century writers — pop into the former residence of Lafcadio Hearn, one of the first Western writers to settle in Japan. Then, see ancient and modern art and relax in the calming stone garden at the Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art, or head to Musashizuka Park to see the tomb and statue of famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
