About your trip

Celebrate Mother’s Day with us at the Oak River Cottage Tea Room at Hopsewee Plantation.  The plantation, built circa 1740 and was one of the South’s major rice plantations along the Santee Delta.  In addition to rice, indigo was grown at the plantation and was one of South Carolina’s first cash crops.

  • The cancellation date for this tour is March 11, 2026, which is the last day to cancel and receive a refund from Capitol Tours.  Travel Insurance is available upon request to help protect your investment, subject to eligibility criteria.

Mother's Day at Hopsewee Plantation

Saturday, May 9

7:30am      Gather with your fellow travelers at Capitol Tours office on Leaphart Road to prepare for departure to Hopsewee Plantation at 8:00am.

11:15am      Arrive at the historic Hopsewee Plantation.  We start our visit at Hopsewee Plantation with a delicious lunch in the Oak River Cottage Tea Room.

12:45pm      Following lunch, take a guided house tour and a self-guided tour of the museum and grounds.  Built circa 1740, some 40 years before the American Revolutionary War, Hopsewee Plantation was one of the South’s major rice plantations. Hopsewee was the home of Thomas Lynch, Sr. who served in the Continental Army and the birthplace of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Lynch, Jr.  Thomas Lynch Sr. and Thomas Lynch Jr. were the only father and son team to serve the Continental Congress.

  2:30pm      Depart from Hopsewee and travel along Highway 17 to Willie’s Roadside Market at Boone Hall. 

  3:30pm      Arrive at the market where you will find fresh produce and plants for sale.

  4:15pm      Time to travel on to West Columbia.

  6:30pm      Estimated arrival at Capitol Tours.
