About your trip

The Cuyabeno Fauna Production Reserve is located in the Province of Sucumbíos, in the northeast of the Amazon Region of Ecuador. Its surface is 590,112 ha. It is one of the places with the greatest biodiversity on the planet and is home to endangered species, such as the famous pink river dolphin, a very peculiar bird such as the Hoatzin or eagle of the region, with its two and a half meter wingspan, Over 500 species of birds, 450 species of fish, 12,000 plant species, and hundreds of mammals, reptiles, and amphibians can be found in this diverse ecosystem. Join us as we venture into this unique and fascinating habitat!

Day 1

Upon arrival at the Cuyabeno bridge,

 After traveling by bus directly to the Cuyabeno Bridge, we will travel by motorized canoe to our lodge for breakfast and rest, after lunch we will take a short acclimatization walk along the Los Ceibos trail. Upon return we will prepare our tents and other logistics for our trip the next day. Dinner and stay at Cuyabeno River Lodge. 

Day 2

Tiger Pass

 After breakfast, we will get into the canoes that we will be using for the next four days to move through the Reserve. We will begin to rowing the Cuyabeno river until we reach Paso del Tigre, where we will have a short walk of approximately two hours where we may be lucky enough to see Pecares. When we return to the canoe, we will have the opportunity to fish for piranhas, and we will go deeper into the jungle, we will arrive at the Canangueno lagoon, where, more at night, we will have a night walk to observe caimans; We will spend the night in the lagoon. (As a point of reference: We can camp at Paso del Tigre. 

Day 3

Lagoon Grande

(Optional: Requests for morning birding walks are welcome.) After breakfast, we will get on our canoe, enjoying the beautiful flora and fauna. We will continue on our journey until we reach Laguna Grande; which is the natural habitat of several species of animals, such as pink and gray dolphins, river turtles, and the elusive anaconda. We will find a suitable place for lunch and rest for a while. And we will continue our trip through the Cuyabeno, until we reach the Siona community in Puerto Bolívar, where we will be able to see their customs and experience their way of making food, assisting in the manufacture of cassava or cassava bread. Then we will go downriver where we will camp for the night.

Expedition

 We will go along the river until we reach ; where we will have a short walk through this almost untouched part of Cuyabeno, and we will go bird watching in the river. We will observe the pink dolphins along the river and they will be able to swim in it. We will camp in Montufar to spend the night. 

Day 5

Bird Watching

Breakfast, then we will go through the Cuyabeno River until we reach Aguas Negras; a beautiful black water river that has a large number of exotic and unique birds that could not be seen anywhere in the world. We will enjoy some fantastic walks through the jungle and we will be able to learn about this unique ecosystem with the help of our guide. We will return to Cuyabeno River lodge to spend the night in the cabins with all the services it offers.

Day 6

Cuyabeno River Lodge

On the last day, we will have an early breakfast and return to Cuyabeno River Lodge by motorized canoe. Hopefully we will be able to see something that we did not achieve on our trip into the Reserve. Upon arrival at the Lodge, we will have lunch, we will rest for a moment and

We will go to the Cuyabeno Bridge to take the bus back to Quito.
