Alternative Hair Show
In 1983 hairdresser Tony Rizzo and his wife Maggie lost their first-born child, Valentino, to leukaemia at the tender age of 2 years and 7 months. They decided to hit back at this vicious disease in the best way they knew by engaging their many friends and colleagues in hairdressing worldwide in an entirely new and audacious charity fund raising event.
The Alternative Hair Show was first staged at London’s Camden Theatre in October 1983. The Show was a huge success raising an enormous £7,500, which was immediately donated to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research the UK’s leading blood cancer research charity. The Alternative Hair Show was born!

Education from:
Alyssia Dotson is the national educator and creator of the “Hair is Fabric” movement. She has had a passion for the beauty industry for most of her adult life. Using hair as her canvas, she brings a distinctive aesthetic and innovative approach to draw out each client’s unique beauty.
She has studied alongside some of the industry’s most respected professionals, previously serving as salon director at Toni & Guy. Her ability to blend innovation with classic designs has led her to work at New York Fashion Week for five consecutive seasons, StyleWeek Northeast, and on the set of numerous fashion photo shoots. Today, Alyssia owns and works behind the chair at Shear Peace Hair Salon in Dallas while also servicing a devoted client base in Miami.
With a natural ability to engage an audience in a classroom or on stage, Alyssia strives to educate and share her passion with stylists all over the country.
Sally Rogerson is a leading educator and stylist passionate about providing high-quality and accessible modern salon education. Sally’s passion for fashion, music and art naturally led her towards a career in hairdressing. After joining the Vidal Sassoon at the age of 16, Sally worked her way up through the organization and was eventually named the Creative Director of the Vidal Sassoon Academy in London. Ten years later Sally was promoted to the role of Senior Creative Director of the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Los Angeles.
During her twenty years with Vidal Sassoon, Sally worked as a stylist, educator, international brand ambassador, and platform artist where she created industry trends for editorial shoots. Passionate about designing programs and classes that speak to the unique needs of salons, stylists and cosmetology schools, in 2010 Sally struck out on her own and opened SR Education. Founded on the principles of high-quality, modern and relevant hair education through a personalized and hands-on approach, SR Education provided advanced classes and training programs for existing stylists and recent graduates. In 2020 Sally opened the SR Academy in Scottsdale, AZ focused on hairstyling licensure courses.
Throughout her years as an educator and mentor Sally has helped to inspire a legion of highly respected and influential hairdressers who value the role continuing education plays in the mastery of their craft. She is excited to partner with Shannon Rha in the SR Hair Society Salon and Academy, where her commitment to modern, relevant and accessible education will continue to inspire the next generation of stylists.
