About your trip

This is a twist on your quintessential African adventure complete with an eco-tour of Botswana’s Chobe Game Lodge led by the Chobe Angels (Africa’s first all-women safari guide team) and a safari in Zambia’s Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. You can also expect a sighting of one of the seven world wonders, Victoria Falls, locally called Mosi-oa-Tunya ‘Smoke that Thunders’ from both the Zambia and Zimbabwe perspectives. And not to worry, there’s no backpacking involved, this trip will give luxury from start to finish, that is…luxury-at-prices-we-can-afford. You’re welcome 😉.

About our destinations

With this trip, we are making off-the-beaten-path accessible. We will visit three countries within the Kaza conservation region of Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. In a place near Kazungula, four countries meet where the Zambezi and Chobe Rivers converge to form one border connected by the Kazungula Bridge Project. On our trip, we will visit three of these four countries.

Our base will be in Livingstone, Zambia, what many consider to be the most luxurious of the cities within the Kaza region. We will organize day trips to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe (15-minute drive) and Kasane, Botswana (90-minute drive) over our week in Zambia.

Accommodation

Stay in style at this stunning hotel in Victoria Falls bordered by Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park for close encounters with Zambia’s amazing wildlife and incredible views of Victoria Falls.

  • Located in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park
  • Free unlimited access to Victoria Falls
  • Access to viewing decks at sister hotel Royal Livingstone Hotel by Anantara

Weather

What to expect of Zambia in late-August:

  • Cool and pleasant temperatures: high of 86°F (30°C) and a low of 54°F (12°C)
  • Best time for viewing the Falls as there is enough water in the Zambezi to make it picturesque, but not too much that you see nothing but white mist
  • Best time for water based activities as there’s enough water for boats to float but not too much that it’s dangerous
  • Best time for a lush safari experience and lots of game viewing

Target traveler

We have thoughtfully curated a purpose-filled itinerary for women who travel for more than just the gram. If you’re looking for a little adventure and wide-eyed wonder to delight your soul after a few years of being mostly home, this trip is for you. If you enjoy having deep conversations with women who encourage the quieter parts of your personality to pop, this trip’s for you. If you want to spend a week celebrating the women of Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe who are working together to build a more equitable future for the next generation, this trip is most certainly for you. We cater to women of all ages, at varying life stages and have designed the itinerary with this in mind.

How to get there

Airport: Livingstone, Zambia (LVI)

  • You can book your own flight directly to Livingstone. OR
  • For a more affordable option, a travel hack is to transit through Johannesburg (JNB) which is a short flight from Livingstone (LVI).
  • You can reserve a ticket with our group fare that will afford you a direct economy class round trip ticket from Newark (EWR) to Johannesburg (JNB). It’s just 15 hours. I say ‘just’ because this saves you half the time of transiting through Europe, the Middle East or another African country as those routes can take up to 36 hours.
  • You can then use our seamless VIP Transfer add-on which includes one-night at a premium boutique hotel in Johannesburg on the outbound leg, roundtrip flights from JNB to LVI, and our team's support at every step along the way. This also allows you to add a fourth African country to your weeklong Girls Trip Tours adventure without having to plan a single detail. That’s a guaranteed price for all your international flights and a night in Johannesburg, while flying the most direct route possible with other Girls Trip Tours travellers.

Visas

The following citizens can travel visa-free to South Africa (VIP Transfer add-on) and as of October 1 2022 can also travel visa-free to Zambia:

  • United States
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • European Union

The Kaza Univisa allows tourists to obtain ONE single visa to visit all THREE countries (Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana) on our itinerary. You may obtain the Kaza Univisa for $50 on arrival in Zambia at LVI airport. The visa is valid up to 30 days in any given period of 12 months, as long as the holder remains within Zambia and Zimbabwe. It also covers those who visit Botswana for day-trips through Kazungula Borders.

If you are not eligible for the Kaza Univisa, you can follow the links we have provided to apply for e-visas online to each country.

If this is confusing, don’t worry. Your booking includes a 30-minute visa & travel consultation.

Cancellation policy

  • Deposit refund policy: Please note that deposits are non-refundable after 10 days. Before that, you can get a full refund minus a service fee of $175.
  • General refund policy: May 31st 2023 is the last possible day to request a monetary refund of 50% (excluding the deposit which is non-refundable) on any payments made. After which, you can request a refund of 50% in travel credits (excluding the deposit which is non-refundable) towards a future Girls Trip Tours experience until 30 days before the start date of your scheduled trip. This travel credit will be valid for 12 months from the start date of your intended trip. After that, we unfortunately cannot offer any refunds.

TASTE OF ZAMBIA

On arrival, you will be met at the airport by a VIP concierge that will help you get your Kaza Visa and attend to your bags before guiding you to your car.

Once you arrive at the Avani Hotel (15-minute drive), you are welcomed in Zambian fashion with hospitality and flair and shown to your room located within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park - just steps from one of the seven world wonders: Victoria Falls.

Later that evening, you will be invited to join the group and some local women of impact in the Boma to experience a traditional Zambian feast complete with game meats, live music, traditional dance, and storytelling. Don’t be startled if you see a zebra or giraffe on your way to dinner. Remember, you are in the National Park, so some wildlife can be seen roaming on the property (non-predatory ones, of course).

Day Two

MIGHTY ZIMBABWE

Our second day begins shortly before noon. We will head across the Kazungula bridge for the first time to visit Victoria Falls from the Zimbabwe side (15-minute drive), which is located in a protected rainforest.

After experiencing the world wonder, we will head into town for local shopping and a one-of-kind women-run gourmet culinary experience.

Day Three

POSTCARD FROM ZAMBIA

Day three starts off with a mid-morning safari in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. Expect to see hippos, rhinos, impala, buffalos, and elephants amongst other wildlife. Next, we welcome girls from our Girls MAP Foundation program for an elegant picnic overlooking Victoria Falls. We’ll connect with the girls through song, dance, fun games, and conversation - all in a uniquely picturesque setting.

Once we say farewell to our little friends, we will have some much needed rest before heading over to our sister property at the Royal Livingstone (via golf cart) for a sunset dinner overlooking the Falls.

Day Four

THE WOMEN OF BOTSWANA

On this day, we’ll rise a little earlier than usual as we are heading across the Kazungula bridge once more - this time for a day in Botswana (90-minute drive).

We’ll spend the day with the Chobe Angels (Africa’s first all-women guide team), touring the Chobe Game Lodge and learning about their sustainable tourism model and feminist approach to conservation. It will be a full day, but we plan to have you back in Livingstone before sunset.

Day Five

YOU, ME AND THE ZAMBEZI

On our last full day in Livingstone, we will invite you to join us for an optional late morning walk on the property to view Victoria Falls from the Zambia side (if you haven’t ventured to that part of the property already).

You will then have a free afternoon to do as you wish. Enjoy the spa at Royal Livingstone, get some rest and relaxation by the pool, go shopping or select from more adventurous activities you can add-on.

In the evening, we will gather one last time for an intimate sunset dinner cruise on the Zambezi River with cocktails, music, and breathtaking views of nature and wildlife.
