Travel Tips

· When packing for your cruise, we recommend that you pack a small carry-on bag with your medications, travel documents, a change of clothes, and any valuables or electronics that you will be bringing on your cruise.

· When deciding which Credit/Debit card to associate with your SeaPass onboard spending account, please keep in mind that temporary holds or authorizations may be placed.  While not actual charges, these holds will reduce available funds. Most are released within 3 – 5 days after your cruise, but some may take up to 30 days. Please contact your card issuer to remove any remaining holds after your cruise, as Royal Caribbean International doesn’t control how long they remain. If the form of payment on your onboard account was changed, prior holds will remain on the original card until final charges are submitted at the end of the cruise.

· Royal Caribbean Visa Signature Cardholders: Maximize your cardholder benefits by linking your card to your onboard account, earning you double MyCruise Rewards points  during your sailing. These points can then be redeemed for exciting rewards like onboard credit and discounts, stateroom upgrades, or even a free cruise! Learn more about  your benefits here.

· Having the right travel documents is one of the most important parts of getting ready for your trip. Please be sure to check your itinerary for the countries you will visit and  their travel document requirements for your nationality, these may include passports, visas, inoculation certificates and family legal documents. Obtaining these are your responsibility.

Costa Maya Excursions & Cruise Tours

The cruise port town of Costa Maya lies on the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It boasts a rich history, soft beaches, and a stunning coral reef just offshore, making it a desirable Caribbean destination. The port of Costa Maya also serves as the closest access point to many of Mexico's lesser-known and less excavated Mayan ruin sites, offering visitors an incredibly worthwhile experience easily accessible directly from the cruise ship. Caribbean cruise lines send hundreds of thousands of cruisers to Mexico's second-busiest port every year. Discover the excitement that awaits in this lively port of call!

Ancient Ruins Excursions

A few of our top cruise excursions and tour sites include the Mayan ruins at Chacchoben, Kohunlich, and Dzibanche, which are three of Mexico's best-kept secrets. At the archaeological site of the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins, you can learn about the rich history of the area and later spend time with locals who will teach you how to make traditional and authentic Mexican food (not tacos). At the Kohunlich Mayan Ruins, you can visit many still intact rooms of a Mayan palace. Lastly, the Dzibanche Mayan Ruins, believed to be an early capital of the Kan Dynasty, feature important temples of Mayan history, including pyramids built using 5th-century Maya architectural methods. In Costa Maya, there's no shortage of sightseeing opportunities!

Guided Tour Adventures

After marveling at these incredible pieces of ancient Mayan history, swim with dolphins in Costa Maya's dazzling blue waters for a day excursion complete with excitement and intrigue. You should also scuba dive to see the wide variety of sea life in Costa Maya. If you're looking for a snorkeling excursion, make sure to visit the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, full of amazing tropical fish and coral formations.

For some adventure, consider a boat tour or a kayak or canoe rental at the Bacalar Lagoon, also known as the Seven Color Lagoon by locals, where you can also see the wonderful cenotes (natural deep-water wells). There are many gorgeous places to swim, windsurf, paddleboard, and sail.

And if you're looking to relax, take a beach break and enjoy one of Costa Maya's beautiful beaches. Mahahual Beach is a great place to relax, with plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas available. There's also an excellent beach club with an open bar and comfy lounge chairs right on the sea! This little town is known as a quiet place in the evenings and then springs to life when the cruise ships come in. We have Costa Maya shore excursions and tours for every activity level at every price point, so read our ratings and book one today!
