Turkey offers a unique experience for African Americans interested in exploring the historical and cultural links between Africa and Turkey. Our focus will be on the city's rich heritage, art, cuisine, and architectural influences that provide a compelling backdrop for anyone seeking to understand the interconnectedness of these two diverse regions.
Tanzania is home to a diverse range of ethnic groups, and its people have a deep sense of tradition and community, offering an opportunity for African Americans to explore and reconnect with their heritage. Additionally, Tanzania is renowned for its stunning landscapes, including the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti National Park, and the beautiful island of Zanzibar, providing a chance to immerse oneself in the natural beauty of the continent. By visiting Tanzania, African Americans can gain a deeper understanding of their cultural origins while enjoying the warmth and hospitality of the Tanzanian people.

Our must-see attractions include the Grand Bazaar, the vibrant heart of Istanbul's trade and commerce, where the scents of exotic spices and the sight of colorful displays of fruits and nuts create an immersive sensory experience. The Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia are architectural marvels that not only reflect the multicultural heritage of the city but also provide insights into the artistic and architectural influences from Africa.
Spend the evening exploring the culinary scene in Istanbul, a true cultural highlight, offering a delightful fusion of flavors that reflect the influence of African and Turkish traditions.
As we land at Kilimanjaro Airport, the warm African sun will welcome us home to the motherland, filling us with anticipation for the adventures ahead.
We will be transported to an authentic Maasai Village, where we will be immediately captivated by the stunning landscapes and the welcoming spirit of the locals, providing us with a glimpse into the rich culture of the Maasai people.
During our immersive overnight stay, we will savor authentic meals and engage in insightful conversations with the villagers, gaining a deep understanding of their traditional way of life, experiencing tribal rituals and dances, and sleeping in a traditional Maasai hut under the vast African sky. This incredible encounter promises to be both humbling and invigorating.
Upon arrival in Zanzibar, we'll settle into your beachfront villa and spend the afternoon strolling along the beautiful beach. We'll be open to enjoy a delicious seafood dinner at a local restaurant in the evening.
We'll visit Stone Town while taking in the unique blend of cultures and history. We'll explore the Sultan's Palace, the Old Fort, and the bustling markets. In the afternoon, you go on a spice tour to learn about Zanzibar's famous spices.
Leisure Day: Explore the island on your own, or you may opt to unwind and enjoy a peaceful day at the beach. Whether it's a spa treatment or simply lounging under a palm tree, you can take the time to reflect on your Zanzibar experience and soak in the tranquil atmosphere.
Next day, we'll take a morning ferry from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam; we start our day by visiting the National Museum to explore more of Tanzania's rich cultural and historical heritage. The museum offers fascinating exhibits on traditional crafts, tribal art, and the country's archaeological history. Afterward, we'll check into our hotel for an evening of city lights (on your own).
We head to Kariakoo Market, one of East Africa's largest open-air markets, for a vibrant shopping experience and to immerse ourselves in the bustling atmosphere. (Transportation to the market can be arranged but is not included.)
Head for a leisurely meal at Slipway, a waterfront complex offering a variety of dining options. Afterward, visit the iconic Askari Monument to learn about its historical significance. To unwind, we spend a relaxing afternoon at Coco Beach, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere by the sea.
Unwind and prepare for our flight back home the next day. Reflect on the incredible experience and prepare to return for your next ABTF travel adventure.
