About your trip

The Japan Early Childhood Education Study Tour is designed for educators and leaders passionate about exploring Japan’s unique approaches to early years learning. This immersive program provides the opportunity to visit kindergartens and early childhood centres in Tokyo and Kyoto, where participants will observe daily routines, teaching practices, and the learning environments that support Japan’s youngest learners.

Renowned for its emphasis on respect, independence, and the development of social skills, Japan’s early childhood education system is admired globally. Educators and leaders will gain insight into how Japanese centres foster a love of learning, community connection, and child well-being through purposeful play, nature-based learning, and strong family partnerships.

Over the course of a week, participants will explore Japan’s approaches to curriculum, pedagogy, and leadership within early childhood settings, with opportunities to engage in discussions with Japanese educators and centre leaders. The program also includes cultural experiences to enrich understanding, including a city tour of Tokyo and Kyoto, a traditional tea ceremony, and kimono dressing.

Travelling alongside like-minded educators, this study tour is an inspiring opportunity to learn, share ideas, and make new connections while gaining practical insights from one of the world’s leading early childhood education systems.
