About your trip

Experience the very best of the Swiss Alps on this breathtaking journey through the heart of the Bernese Oberland. From the flower-filled, car-free village of Mürren to the sunny terraces of Wengen and the glacier-draped peaks above Grindelwald, each stop offers its own unique charm — and unforgettable alpine views. Ride scenic mountain railways and soaring cable cars, follow well-marked trails through lush meadows and pine forests, and soak in panoramas of world-famous peaks like the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Along the way, reward your efforts with hearty mountain meals, local specialties like rösti and raclette, and the occasional slice of Apfelstrudel enjoyed in a sunny café.

Whether you're tracing the dramatic contours of the Eiger Trail, marveling at the icy world of the Jungfraujoch — the “Top of Europe” — or simply breathing in the pure mountain air from a quiet alpine path, this trip is packed with scenic wonders and soul-soothing moments. With charming chalet-style accommodations, flexible hiking options, and the ease of Swiss transport, this is an unforgettable alpine escape that perfectly balances adventure, relaxation, and postcard-worthy views at every turn.

Activity Level - Moderate

This trip is ideal for active travelers who enjoy walking and spending time outdoors. Daily hikes range from easy to moderate, but we are listing this trip as moderate level because you will have hiking on multiple days in a row.  While a good level of fitness will help you make the most of the alpine terrain, walks are flexible, and you can tailor each day to suit your energy levels and interests.

Weather

June in the Swiss Alps is a beautiful time to visit, with long daylight hours, blooming alpine flowers, and pleasantly mild weather. Daytime temperatures in the valleys typically range from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), while it’s cooler at higher elevations, especially in the mornings and evenings. You can expect a mix of sunshine and occasional rain showers, so it's wise to pack layers and a light waterproof jacket — perfect conditions for hiking and enjoying the fresh mountain air.

Money & Tipping

All the excursions listed in the itinerary are included. Bring cash/credit cards for purchasing souvenirs, additional snacks/meals, alcoholic drinks, extra activities, and other items. You can either order Euros from your bank at home or use an ATM on arrival in Amsterdam to get some cash. Exchanging USD to Euros at the airport or at a bank in Europe is not always easy and doesn't give the best exchange rates.

All gratuities are included in your adventure, with the exception of tips for your Chicas Abroad Tour Leader. While tipping your Tour Leader is entirely optional, it’s a meaningful way to show appreciation for the care, energy, and behind-the-scenes magic they bring to your trip.

If you’ve had an exceptional experience, a typical gratuity for a trip of this length ranges from $250–$350. In cases where more than one Tour Leader is present, you’re welcome to give your tip to one of them—they’ll ensure it’s shared among the team.

Welcome to Mürren & Group Dinner

Arrive anytime before 2:00pm this day and make your way to Mürren. We will be organizing group transportation between Zurich and Murren for anyone that arrives in Zurich by 2:00pm. If you are coming from another part of Switzerland or arriving at a different time, we can assist you with arrangements.

Step into a real-life fairytale as you arrive in the enchanting village of Mürren, a picture-perfect Swiss alpine gem where time seems to slow down. With its charming, car-free streets lined by cozy wooden chalets bursting with colorful flowers, Mürren feels like something straight out of a storybook. As you stroll through the village, breathe in the crisp mountain air and listen carefully for the gentle melody of cowbells echoing across the hills — the soundtrack of the Swiss Alps.

After exploring a little, you’ll settle into your inviting chalet-style hotel for a two-night stay, where cozy evenings and spectacular mountain views await.

Whether you’re gazing at the snow-capped peaks or savoring a hot chocolate on a sunny terrace, Mürren promises pure alpine magic from the moment you arrive. We will be having a Welcome Dinner for whoever is in town before dinner time.

Getting there is half the fun: from Mürren, ride the train to Grütschalp, glide down to Lauterbrunnen by cable car, and then hop aboard the scenic railway that climbs steadily up to Wengen. As you ascend, take in sweeping views of the lush valley and the mighty Jungfrau. Hiking Valleys & Mountains, Post-Hike Beer

One of the highlights of any trip to Wengen is the stunning Panorama Trail, accessible by the Männlichen cable car (2342m). This spectacular walk traces the base of the Männlichen mountain range, winding through lush woods and scenic alpine pastures. Along the way, you’ll be treated to incredible views of the towering rock walls of Lauterbrunnen Valley and the pristine Trümmelbach Valley, all the way to Kleine Scheidegg (2061m).

After completing the trail, reward yourself with a refreshing cold beer, a hearty plate of rösti, and a generous helping of melting raclette at the renowned mountain pass, where the panoramic views of the Eiger, Lauberhorn, and their glaciers are nothing short of breathtaking. From Kleine Scheidegg, you can also take the train to Jungfraujoch, Europe’s highest rail station (a must-see, covered on Days 6 & 7). If you’re not quite ready to head back, you can either hop aboard the Wengernalp railway for a relaxing ride back to the village or continue exploring further along the trails.

Day 5 - Eiger Trail

Day 5 - Eiger Trail image

Mountain Views, Hiking, Trail Ride

One of our all-time favorite Swiss hikes is the Eiger Trail, a breathtaking route that starts at Eigergletscher (just a short train ride from Wengen) and winds its way to Alpiglen. This high-altitude trail brings you face-to-face with the legendary North Face of the Eiger — a truly awe-inspiring sight. Look up and to the right, and you’ll spot the metal ladders that climbers use to tackle this iconic peak — you might even catch a climber or two starting their adventure.

As you walk, soak in the sweeping views of the Wetterhorn and the Grosse Scheidegg, before continuing along a zigzagging trail that leads you down to Alpiglen. From here, you have the option to hop on the train for a quick return, or if you’re feeling adventurous, you can continue your journey on foot through the Gletscherschlucht gorge and all the way to Grindelwald — your base for the next three nights.

For those who prefer a more leisurely journey, you can also take the cable cars or a scenic train ride directly from Wengen to Grindelwald, where you’ll find plenty of easier walks to enjoy, all set against the backdrop of this picturesque mountain village.

Accommodation: Hotel in Grindelwald
Meals Included: Breakfast

Hiking: Eiger trail via the Gletscherschlucht to Grindelwald: 13.5km/8.4 miles, ascent/descent: 820ft/4920ft

Day 6 - Jungfraujoch

Day 6 - Jungfraujoch image

Highest Train in Europe

A must-do excursion during your stay in the Bernese Oberland is the iconic Jungfraujoch, known as the ‘Top of Europe’. The journey to this high-altitude wonder begins at Kleine Scheidegg, where the cogwheel railway takes you on a steep climb up to the Jungfraujoch at 3,454 meters.

At the top, you’ll find an unforgettable experience, with an ice palace showcasing intricate ice sculptures, a panoramic “Sphinx” observation terrace offering jaw-dropping views over the Aletsch Glacier (the longest alpine glacier at 23 kilometers), and several restaurants where you can warm up or enjoy a meal with a view.

Today you have the option to explore several scenic walks. Visit the Grosse Scheidegg plateau, admire the sparkling Bachalpsee, or head up to First, where a cable car station awaits for even more alpine exploration. When you're ready to relax, there are charming mountain cafés dotted around Grindelwald, perfect for unwinding with a slice of Apfelstrudel or a refreshing Mövenpick ice cream sundae — because after all, you’ll need the energy for more adventures!
