About your trip

Join Father Timothy O’Sullivan for a spiritually enriching and joy-filled journey through Germany and Austria, organized in partnership with Cloverdale Travel. This unforgettable pilgrimage follows the route: Munich arrival – Munich (3 nights) – Salzburg (2 nights) – Vienna (3 nights) and spans 10 days / 9 nights (8 hotel nights and 1 in-flight).

Blending faith, fellowship, breathtaking scenery, and the timeless magic of The Sound of Music, this experience invites you not only to visit beautiful places, but to step directly into one of the most beloved films of all time — while grounding each day in prayer and daily Mass (subject to confirmation).

Munich – 3 Nights

Your pilgrimage begins in Munich, the capital of Bavaria, where Old World charm and Catholic heritage meet. After arrival and a warm welcome dinner, you’ll explore the city’s historic center, including Marienplatz and the iconic Frauenkirche. A guided visit to the Residenz Palace reveals the grandeur of Bavaria’s royal past.

An excursion into the Bavarian Alps brings you to Neuschwanstein Castle, the fairytale masterpiece of King Ludwig II, dramatically set against mountain scenery. You’ll also visit Ettal Abbey, a magnificent Benedictine monastery that reflects centuries of faith and tradition. Throughout your time in Munich, the pilgrimage remains centered in prayer, community, and reflection under Father O’Sullivan’s spiritual leadership.

Salzburg – 2 Nights

Salzburg is where the heart of The Sound of Music truly comes alive. Nestled beneath the Alps and crowned by the fortress of Hohensalzburg, this baroque jewel is both a spiritual center and a cinematic treasure.

During your guided Sound of Music experience, you will follow in the footsteps of Maria and the von Trapp family. You’ll stroll through Mirabell Gardens — where “Do-Re-Mi” was famously filmed — and see Mozart Bridge and the charming Old Town streets that appear throughout the movie. You’ll visit Nonnberg Convent (exterior), where the real Maria was a novice, and see the beautiful church in Mondsee where the wedding scene was filmed.

As you walk through Salzburg’s squares and gardens, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into the film itself. There will even be a special sing-along component, making this more than a sightseeing tour — it becomes a joyful celebration of music, memory, and shared experience.

Beyond the film, Salzburg offers profound spiritual depth. You’ll visit St. Peter’s Abbey and the magnificent Salzburg Cathedral, where Mass will be celebrated (subject to confirmation), uniting the beauty of the setting with the sacred purpose of the pilgrimage.

Vienna – 3 Nights

Your journey concludes in Vienna, Austria’s imperial capital, where grand architecture, sacred art, and musical heritage intertwine.

You will celebrate Mass at St. Stephen’s Cathedral (subject to confirmation), explore the historic city center, and tour the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace, former summer residence of the Habsburg emperors.

A memorable excursion takes you to Melk Abbey, perched above the Danube River — one of Europe’s most stunning baroque monasteries. Weather permitting, you’ll enjoy a scenic boat ride along the Danube before gathering for a festive evening in the wine village of Grinzing, complete with traditional Austrian music.

A Journey of Faith, Music, and Fellowship

Under Father O’Sullivan’s pastoral guidance and the careful planning of Cloverdale Travel, this pilgrimage is designed to nourish both heart and soul. It is a journey that weaves together daily Mass, sacred spaces, majestic landscapes, and the joyful nostalgia of The Sound of Music.

From the soaring Alps to the gardens where Maria sang, from ancient abbeys to imperial cathedrals, this 10-day pilgrimage invites you to sing, pray, explore, and experience the beauty of faith and film in the very places where history — and cinematic history — were made.
