This trip is for those who want to travel independently, but together, meaning the following:
We have a flexible itinerary to adapt to the group wishes and the conditions
Any events happening that we hear about on the way? We can do it!
Roads closed due to ice and snow? We will find alternatives!
The trip is run on a kitty based / way of cost sharing for food and accommodation
We will find AirBnBs, guesthouses etc and share the cost along the way
This allows us to adapt to peoples budgets, and how far we get that day
Cooking together can be a fun way to get your new travel mates
Choose the activities that you want to do, and meet up with the group afterwards
Want to do the golden circle road trip in Reykjavik? Or would you rather go shopping, visit museums and explore the city? Thats completely up to you!
Most will probably want to join the suggested program, but it's no problem if anyone wants to do their own thing and then meet up with the rest in the evening.
If this sounds like something that could work for you, then send a message and let me know you'd be interested to join!
Dont worry about the cost of gas, car rental, parking, tolls etc. Thats all taken care of!
Because it's free! :D
We will book places together on the road, based on the budgets and wishes of the group
Budget for some eating out and some cooking
Arrive at any time, and join a new years dinner together with your new travel friends before going out to experience the bonifires or stay behind to watch the Áramótaskaupið ("The New Year's Lampoon") if you prefer.
After a good new years brekfast you can either head out to the streets of Reykjavik to explore everything the city has to offer by foot, such as the museums, restaurants and public baths, or you can join the rest on a drive through the Golden Circle (Thingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss, Kerid crater, and Bruarfoss depending on time).
Set off on the road trip to visit the peninsula in the West called Snæfjellsnes. We will drive to see the famous Kirkjufjellsfoss, and possibly hike to Grundarfoss. If the wether allows it we could also do a walk around Kirkjufjellet, before setting off to Grundarfjörður which probably would be the most suitable place to spend the night.
Heading North-East we could stop for lunch and a bath around Krauma. Then see the Hraunfossar Waterfall and end up somewhere like Blönduos for the night.
We could spend the day driving around the scenic Trollaskagi Peninsula with a coffee and lunch stop in Varmalid for example, and then ending up in Akureyri for the night.
Feel free to join a day trip to Akureyri, or spend the day exploring the charming town of Akureyri by food. In the evening we could cook up a nice dinner and go out to celebrate our last night together, before people start flying out from Akureyri Airport the next day.
With no planned activites, you could book your flight out at any time. I'll do my best to drive everyone to the airport and pick up the ones coming in at the same time.
