Upon arrival, you will be greeted by members of our CHOICE In-Country Staff, and your Expedition Leaders. You will have time to settle into a local hotel and to explore the area before your orientation dinner. At the orientation dinner, you will meet the local team, your Expedition Leaders, as well as your fellow Expeditioners. There you will review the itinerary for the week, receive important information on the community and project, and have a chance to ask questions and interact with the group. Accommodations are provided in the hotel for the night.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will pack-up, check-out, and head to the village. The village where we will be working and living for the week is located between 1-5 hours from the hotel. Plenty of breaks will be provided for rest and lunch. Depending on the schedule/location, we may have a chance for some cultural activities before arriving in the village. Examples include: Visit to a museum or cultural landmark.
Upon arrival in the village, local community members will greet you via a prepared Welcome Ceremony according to location traditions and customs. For some of the community we visit, it is a rare and exciting experience to have foreigners visit their village.
For the next three days, we will work alongside local community members on a project that they have determined as being necessary for their community. While of course we will be implementing a poverty-alleviating development project, our priority is building local leaders through these projects.
Our time spent working will be paired with time to play, interact, and celebrate with the local people and their culture.
On our last day in the community, we will have a chance to celebrate the hard work we've accomplished and the relationships we've developed.
After the Farewell Ceremony, we will pack-up and head back to our travel-hub, for one more day of rest before departure.
Before your departure, we will have a chance to reflect as a group during our final Farewell Dinner. If time allows, there will also be opportunities to explore more of the area and culture.
The local CHOICE Team will coordinate transportation to the airport for your departure or add-on tour.
