There are various starting points for this cycle ride, the main ones being Norwich, Thetford or King's Lynn.
You start the Rebellion Way in Norwich, a city steeped in history and charm. There’s plenty to discover here before you set off, from the city walls and castle, to the museums and independent shops. Easy riding today with fairly short mileage. Following in Boudicca’s footsteps you pass the ruins of the Roman town of Venta Icenorum, cycle along quiet lanes and ride through very pretty villages, through the town of Diss and on to Rickinghall where you'll be staying the night.
Today you head into the heartland of the Brecks quiet back lanes and forest trails. Heathland, castle mounds, flint mines and gravel tracks
Passing the rather impressive Cromwell tank right on the route, you head on towards Oxborough where you'll come across one of the four stately homes, Oxburgh Hall.
Back lanes take you to the Georgian town of Swaffham, where you then head into the historic village of Castle Acre where you can spend some time admiring the Priory ruins and castle ruins. On you cycle, along more quiet lanes, reaching Bawsey Country Park with its slightly tricky sandy paths! As you head away from here, you cycle past the ruin of St Mary’s church at Bawsey. Staying in King’s Lynn for the night gives you time to wander around the historic quarter with all its incredible architecture.
Today you get the chance to visit a striking castle in the pretty flintstone village of Castle Rising, and then on to the wooded royal estate of Sandringham. You catch a glimpse of the sea today with the villages and towns of Heacham, Hunstanton and Old Hunstanton and you may like to stop in the Georgian town of Burnham Market.
Today you cycle through the grounds of Holkham Hall and see in front of you the impressive Palladian Mansion. You may like to spend some time exploring the grounds of Holkham Hall before you reach Wells. Having enjoyed some fish and chips on the quayside in Wells, you then have a bit of off road cycling before coming into the pilgrimage village of Walsingham where you may see nuns and priests wandering around, and Walsingham Priory ruin is another stop off point. Continue on the ride into another pretty Georgian town, Holt
Having enjoyed Holt, you head on towards Sheringham where there may or may not be a steam train in the station, and out up a rather steep incline (the highest and most difficult point on the whole of the trail). Once at the top, the views are spectacular. Today gives you the chance to cycle through the grounds of 2 other spectacular stately homes and pass by some wonderful Georgian architecture. This stretch begins to take you away from the coast into the Broads, so today you get some very different landscape.
You may have spent the morning visiting Blickling Hall, but if not, you continue inland, cycling quite a way along the narrow gauge railway of the Bure Valley Railway to arrive right into the capital of the Broads, Wroxham. Swiftly out of here, you then cycle through yet more pretty villages, maybe stopping at Woodforde’s Brewery on the way before heading towards urbanization again and into Norwich via the Cathedral.
Stay the night in Norwich.
Today you depart.
