A first time journey through Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, rooted in culture, connection, and community
Japan is layered. Quiet and precise, playful and overwhelming, and constantly reinventing itself. It is a place where small moments matter just as much as big ones. A morning walking through a garden. A late night meal at a tiny counter. A neighborhood that feels lived in rather than put on display.
This journey is designed for queer women, trans, and nonbinary people who want to experience Japan in a way that feels curious, grounded, and connected. We move between the energy of Tokyo and the calm of Kyoto, between sacred spaces and everyday streets, between shared group moments and time to follow personal interests. Along the way, we explore neighborhoods, temples, gardens, markets, and nightlife, taking in both the history that shaped the country and the way people live in it today.
From nights out in Tokyo’s LGBTQ district to the stillness of Kyoto’s temples, playful time with deer in Nara, and a lively final evening in Osaka, this trip is about seeing Japan clearly, experiencing it fully, and sharing it in community. It is thoughtful, joyful, and rooted in real moments rather than rushing from one highlight to the next.

Required for the trip
Arrive in Tokyo and settle into our hotel in Shinjuku, the heart of the city’s LGBTQ community. After time to freshen up, we will gather for a relaxed welcome dinner, our first chance to connect as a group and ease into the rhythm of the trip.
If energy allows, we will take a short neighborhood stroll, possibly ending with an iconic Japanese 7/11 run to sample snacks, desserts, and late-night favorites.
You can’t come to Tokyo without visiting Sensō-ji, the city’s oldest temple and one of its most iconic landmarks. Set in the historic Asakusa neighborhood, it feels like a doorway into old Tokyo.
Getting there is part of the experience. We walk through the surrounding market streets, passing stalls selling snacks, sweets, souvenirs, and traditional crafts. It’s lively, colorful, and full of everyday energy.
From there, we spend the day exploring Tokyo, moving between historic sites, neighborhood streets, and modern corners of the city, getting a feel for how tradition and innovation live side by side.
In the afternoon, we come together for a Tokyo food crawl, sharing casual local dishes and easing into one of the most social nights of the trip.
After a short reset, we head into Shinjuku, the heart of Tokyo’s LGBTQ nightlife, for an evening of bar hopping in queer spaces. We start at Bar Gold Finger, Tokyo’s most iconic lesbian bar, before continuing on to Queens & Kings and soaking up the energy of the neighborhood together.
Free day to explore Tokyo
The remainder of the day is open, with suggestions for coffee walks, shopping streets, museums, or time back at the hotel. Some may wander through nearby neighborhoods, others may settle into a café or take the afternoon slow before the evening ahead.
After arrival, the afternoon is spent wandering Kyoto’s historic streets, easing into the slower rhythm of the city. Cobblestone lanes, wooden buildings, riverside paths, and tucked-away shops offer a first glimpse of Kyoto’s timeless atmosphere.
The evening is open for dinner plans and gentle exploration, a chance to settle in and enjoy the contrast after our time in Tokyo.
Today we spend time at Fushimi Inari Taisha, one of Kyoto’s most iconic and meaningful sites. Known for its thousands of vermilion torii gates winding up the hillside, the shrine is dedicated to Inari, the Shinto deity of rice, prosperity, and protection.
We walk through the gates at an easy pace, moving between shaded forest paths and open viewpoints, taking in the rhythm and symbolism of the space. Along the way, there is time to pause, notice details, and experience the quieter moments that make this place so powerful.
This visit offers a deeper look at Kyoto’s spiritual life and a chance to slow down, reflect, and experience one of Japan’s most recognizable landscapes in a way that feels grounded and unhurried.
After a full day of cultural touring, today unfolds at a slower, more personal pace.
The afternoon is open for exploration. Some may spend time in gardens or historic neighborhoods, others may shop for crafts, linger over coffee, or return to the hotel to rest.
Later in the day, optional experiences are available for those who wish to deepen their connection to Japanese culture and wellness. These experiences are scheduled so it is possible to join one, join both, or opt out entirely and enjoy the day at your own pace.
We travel to Nara, one of Japan’s most historic cities, home to ancient temples, open parkland, and the famous, freely roaming deer. With a guided visit, we explore this iconic landscape, where history and playfulness exist side by side.
In the afternoon, we continue to Osaka, known for its vibrant street life, food culture, and bold personality.
That evening, we gather for our closing dinner, a final night together to celebrate the journey we have shared, the places we have experienced, and the connections we have made along the way.
After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to Japan as we depart from Osaka and begin the journey home.
