The purpose of the trip is to explore the African Diaspora and Pan-Africanism. Ghana was the
first African nation to achieve formal independence in 1957 and its first native Prime Minister
Kwame Nkrumah advocated Pan-Africanism, the economic, political, educational, and military
unity of Africa, as a means of improving the standard of living for all people of African descent.
Consequently, Pan-Africanism became a guiding ethic in Ghanaian society and institutions. The
study abroad allows participants to witness Pan-Africanism as a liberation tool and participate
in Ghanaian culture.
