This 3-night getaway to Winding River Resort Campground provides a safe space to overnight horses, and ride along the western edge of Rocky Mountain National Park - the area is ripe with wildlife, minus the traffic that frequents the other side of the park. Pack your tent, RV, LQ trailer, or rent a room in the lodge.
Bring your own horse and we will take care of the rest. Meals around the campfire with fellow equestrians sharing a love for trail riding, nature, horses, and adventure.
Stalls at each camp site allow you to camp out right next to your horse! Please read the GUEST HORSE GUIDELINES if you plan to bring your horse. Owners are responsible for their own feed, cleaning, and care.
Riders of any discipline are welcome, but must be saddled (no bareback riding with the group). Riders must bring all their own tack, equipment, and feed.
Level: Intermediate-Advanced. Since riders are bringing their own horses, a minimum of intermediate level riding is required. Accompanying non-riders are welcome to join for camping and meals.
Speed: This will be a walking-only ride due to the technical nature of the terrain.
Distance: 10-15 miles with the option for a shorter ride (out and back) if part of the group does not want to do a full ride.
Ride Time: 4-6 hours each day
Terrain: The terrain is mountainous and rocky (it's the Rocky Mountains, after all!). Trails are mostly dirt single-track and some sections that are steep, narrow, or rocky. We will also be riding along the road for a brief section of one ride. Shoes or boots for horses are always recommended.
Camp in a tent or trailer/camper in spacious sites alongside your horses. Camp sites have water and electric hookups.
There are also cabins and lodge-rooms, if available.
Hearty breakfasts and dinners around the campfire will be provided. Guests must provide their own lunches, snacks, and alcoholic beverages. Dietary restrictions, allergies, vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-free can all be accommodated with advanced notice.
