What is an eco-retreat?

An eco-retreat in the Panamanian mangroves of Bocas del Toro offers a unique and immersive experience in one of Central America's most beautiful and biodiverse regions.

Cocovivo is nestled in the lush mangroves of Bocas del Toro, providing a serene and secluded environment. The retreat features eco-friendly bungalows or cabins built on stilts above the water, blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Each unit is designed with sustainability in mind, using solar power, rainwater harvesting, and eco-friendly materials. Guests can enjoy stunning views of the mangroves, crystal-clear waters, and abundant wildlife right from their accommodations. The experience in nature has many benefits, along with some challenges.

Benefits:

  1. Stunning Natural Beauty: The retreat is set in a breathtaking location with access to pristine beaches a boat ride away, clear waters, and diverse marine life.
  2. Eco-Friendly Living: The retreat emphasizes sustainability, offering solar-powered electricity, composting toilets, and rainwater harvesting systems.
  3. Biodiversity: Guests can explore rich biodiversity, including mangroves, coral reefs, tropical fish, and a variety of bird species.
  4. Activities: The retreat offers activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, bird-watching, and guided tours of the mangroves and nearby islands.
  5. Tranquility: The secluded location ensures a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for unwinding and connecting with nature.
  6. Cultural Experience: Opportunities to learn about and engage with the local Ngäbe-Buglé indigenous communities, enhancing the cultural richness of the stay.
  7. Health and Wellness: Our retreats offer yoga sessions, meditation, dance, and wellness programs promoting a holistic approach to relaxation and health.

Challenges:

  1. Accessibility: The remote location will require multiple modes of transportation, including travel via plane, car, and boat.
  2. Limited Amenities: Due to the focus on sustainability, some modern conveniences are limited. For example, electricity may be available only at certain times.
  3. Weather Dependent: Activities and transportation can be heavily dependent on weather conditions, which can sometimes be unpredictable.
  4. Wildlife Encounters: The proximity to nature means encounters with insects and other wildlife are common.
  5. Basic Living Conditions: The emphasis on eco-friendly living means more basic accommodations, embracing a simpler lifestyle surrounded by nature.
  6. Limited Dining Options: Dining options are limited to what is provided on-site, which can limit dietary options.

Overall, Cocovivo, in the Panamanian mangroves of Bocas del Toro offers an unparalleled experience for nature lovers and those seeking a sustainable and peaceful getaway. Also, it’s important to consider the logistical challenges and the basic level of amenities and conveniences.
