7-Day Wildlife Veterinary Program

For those short on time but big on passion.

  • Focus exclusively on wildlife care at Malawi’s primary wildlife rescue sanctuary and clinic

  • Work side-by-side with a qualified wildlife vet on health checks, patient monitoring, diagnostics, and rescue procedures

  • Participate in daily practical work and lectures on wildlife medicine and conservation

  • No domestic animal outreach or safari included in this shorter program

  • Includes full-board accommodation and airport transfers

  • Wrap up your journey with a 2-day/1-night safari in the breathtaking Liwonde National Park

Ideal for students or professionals seeking intensive wildlife experience in just one week.

14-Day Wildlife & Domestic Veterinary Program

This comprehensive program offers a unique blend of wildlife medicine, domestic animal outreach, and a safari adventure, giving you a holistic view of conservation and community-based veterinary work.

  • Work side-by-side with a qualified wildlife vet on health checks, patient monitoring, diagnostics, and rescue procedures

  • Participate in daily practical work and lectures on key topics in wildlife veterinary care, including parasitology, haematology, pharmacology, rehabilitation, and remote capture techniques

  • Engage in domestic animal outreach through LSCPA’s community clinics—assist with spay/neuter surgeries, livestock care, and rural veterinary support

  • Gain extended field experience with additional hands-on training and case exposure

  • Wrap up your journey with a 2-day/1-night safari in the breathtaking Liwonde National Park

  • 7 Day: Vet students of any year level

  • 14 Day: Vet students that are in their clinical years (have completed 2 years at the time of joining the mission)

Note: To join the project, you are required to provide;

  • proof of rabies vaccination

  • a copy of the TB test result taken within 12 months before arrival

  • copy of travel insurance with medical evacuation

  • proof of malaria prophylaxis

Arrival in Malawi

Arrive at Lilongwe International Airport and transfer to the wildlife sanctuary, your home for this incredible journey.

After settling into your full-board accommodation surrounded by the sounds of the wild, you’ll receive a warm welcome from the team and an orientation session.

Get introduced to the sanctuary’s mission, meet the dedicated staff and veterinarians, and learn what to expect over the coming days.

This first day is all about getting comfortable in your new environment, soaking in the natural beauty, and preparing for the hands-on adventure ahead.

Day 2 - 6

Wildlife Rescue, Rehabilitation and Release Immersion

Dive headfirst into the heart of wildlife veterinary care.

Each day offers immersive, hands-on experience working alongside qualified wildlife vets in Malawi’s premier rescue sanctuary.

You’ll assist with any animal care that is needed - it may be annual health checks, emergency rescue intakes, suturing wounds, collecting and analyzing samples, and closely monitoring patient progress.

Expert-led lectures will deepen your understanding of crucial topics like parasitology, haematology, primate medicine, pharmacology, and remote capture techniques.

Experience the thrill of real conservation work, from rehabilitating injured animals to supporting species preservation efforts, all while surrounded by Africa’s breathtaking wilderness and incredible wildlife.

Day Off Excursion

Liwonde National Park

Embark on an unforgettable 2-day/1-night safari through the stunning Liwonde National Park.

Explore this spectacular protected area known for its rich biodiversity and incredible wildlife sightings including elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. With expert guides leading the way, you’ll get up close and personal with nature’s wonders in their natural habitat.

Spend the night immersed in the sounds of the African bush, under star-filled skies, experiencing the true magic of the wild. This excursion offers a thrilling break from the clinic while deepening your appreciation of Malawi’s extraordinary ecosystems.

Day 9 - 13

Community Outreach Conservation

Shift focus to community-based veterinary work through the LSCPA domestic animal outreach program. Participate in impactful spay and neuter clinics, providing vital services that help control local animal populations and improve welfare.

Gain hands-on experience treating livestock and supporting rural communities, playing an essential role in promoting animal health and sustainable farming practices.

Alongside this, continue expanding your veterinary skills and knowledge with additional lectures and practical sessions.

This segment offers a unique opportunity to see how veterinary care intersects with conservation and community wellbeing, making a real difference both in the field and at the grassroots level.

Day 14

Departure

After a final morning reflection on your unforgettable journey, you’ll prepare for departure. Enjoy a farewell breakfast at the sanctuary before transferring back to Lilongwe International Airport. As you leave Malawi, you’ll carry with you not just memories of incredible wildlife encounters and hands-on veterinary experience, but a deeper connection to conservation and community efforts that you helped support. This day marks the end of your immersive adventure—one that will inspire and stay with you long after you return home.
