About your trip

Looking for a fun and memorable outdoor activity for you and your kids? Join us for a morning of shed hunting around Brooklyn, Iowa! This is the perfect opportunity to get outside, explore nature, and enjoy a relaxing adventure with your little ones. No hunting experience or license is required to participate—just bring your enthusiasm and love for the outdoors!

Our group will meet at 8:30 AM in Brooklyn, IA, where we’ll gather and head out on a guided shed hunting expedition. After a quick introduction, we’ll walk through timbered areas, exploring the woods as we search for shed antlers dropped by whitetail deer. The hunt will continue until 11:00 AM, or until the kids are ready for a break. It’s the perfect way to get outside and enjoy the fresh air while teaching kids about the wonders of nature.

What You Can Expect:

  • Shed Hunting Fun: Learn how to spot shed antlers in the wild as you walk through timbered areas with your kids. It’s an exciting and educational experience that can be enjoyed by all ages.
  • Take Home What You Find: Any sheds you find during the hunt are yours to keep! This is a fun opportunity to collect unique treasures while spending quality time in nature.
  • Kid-Friendly: This event is designed for families, so feel free to bring along your kids of all ages. The more, the merrier! It’s a wonderful chance to share an outdoor adventure with your children while teaching them about wildlife.
  • Relaxing & Low-Key: Shed hunting is a relaxed and peaceful activity, ideal for families who want to explore the outdoors without the pressure of a strenuous hike or rigorous schedule.

After our morning hunt, we’ll wrap up the event with a lunch at a local restaurant in Brooklyn, giving everyone the chance to relax, share their finds, and chat about the day’s adventures.

What to Wear:

  • Dress for the Weather: The weather can change quickly, so make sure to wear layers and be prepared for cooler or warmer conditions.
  • Footwear: Boots are recommended for comfortable walking through the woods, as some areas may be muddy or uneven.
  • Clothing: Wear long pants to protect yourself from brush, twigs, and underbrush.

  • Cost for Moms: $10 (this covers a non-refundable deposit for the event).
  • Kids: Free! We want to encourage families to join and share in this adventure together.
  • To secure your spot, please register in advance by paying the $10 deposit. Registration is required as space is limited, and we want to ensure that everyone has a fun and comfortable experience.

TARGET SPECIES + REGULATIONS

Every year mid January to mid March, whitetail bucks will shed their antlers before new ones start to grow back in late spring. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy wandering the woods in March looking for those antlers laying on the timber floor. You can find them laying where they feed, along a trail, or where they bed. Sometimes those antlers will be chewed down, sometimes to nubs, by squirrels, mice, possums, fox and coyote. Antlers are a good source of nutrients. It is legal in Iowa to keep any antlers you find.

LODGING ACCOMMODATION

This is a 1 day event, no lodging is provided!

FAQ’S AND POLICY

Yes, we know this part might seem a bit tedious, but it’s important! We kindly ask that everyone who registers for a trip visits the FAQs and Policy page on our website. If you sign up for a trip without reviewing this information, it’s your responsibility. There’s a wealth of valuable information there that could influence your decision. Please make sure to check out all the FAQs and Policies on our website before signing up for a trip with us. Thank you!

EXPECTATIONS + NO DRAMA

We want to ensure that every trip with Her Wilderness is enjoyable and memorable, but we acknowledge that sometimes things don’t go as planned. Mother Nature has a significant impact on our outdoor adventures, so we encourage you to approach each trip with a positive attitude and a "go with the flow" mindset. If this feels unreasonable to you, we kindly ask that you reconsider registering for our events. Weather can be unpredictable, affecting activities like hiking, hunting, and fishing, and our top priority is always your safety. For instance, if your trip is focused on duck hunting but our guide believes a goose hunt is more feasible, we will follow their expert recommendation. If this kind of flexibility is not something you're comfortable with, we encourage you to think twice about joining us. We expect all participants to maintain a positive attitude, regardless of the circumstances. Many of our trips have faced changes, cancellations, or rescheduling, yet the understanding and adaptability of the group have made all the difference that still allows for an incredible experience! We take pride in creating fun experiences, even in challenging situations. Please be aware that our trips may involve sharing accommodations with others, unpredictable weather that could impact planned activities, limited bathroom facilities for larger groups, and the possibility of not harvesting the specific animal you hoped for. These are real scenarios that can arise, and while we’ll do our best to minimize issues, they can happen. We strive to maintain a drama-free and stress-free environment. If any participant brings negativity or drama, they will be asked to leave without a refund and will not be allowed to return. Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and valued, so we ask for your cooperation in keeping a cool, calm, and collected attitude throughout the trip. We truly appreciate each of our customers and are committed to providing the best possible experience for all participants. Thank you for understanding, and we look forward to creating unforgettable memories together!
