About your trip

The Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu Charity Challenge (Open Challenge - Fund-raising is optional)

Whether you're an avid trekker or prefer a more comfortable journey, Andean Explorer Tours invites you to participate in our Salkantay Charity Challenge to Machu Picchu! This unique 12-day adventure supports Connectability Australia while benefiting local communities in Cusco, Peru. Hike the spectacular Salkantay Trail or enjoy a more leisurely route by bus—both options let you contribute to an amazing cause and experience the wonder of Machu Picchu together!

What is the Salkantay Charity Challenge?

The Salkantay Charity Challenge is more than just an adventure—it’s a way to make a real impact. Over 12 days, you'll explore the breathtaking landscapes and rich culture of Peru while raising funds for Connectability Australia, supporting people with disabilities in the Hunter region. Whether you choose to hike or travel by bus, your efforts will also benefit local communities in Cusco through responsible tourism.

Two Ways to Experience the Charity Challenge:

  1. Trek the Salkantay Trail: For those ready for a physical challenge, hike the stunning Salkantay route to Machu Picchu. This 5-day trek offers diverse landscapes, from snow-capped peaks to lush jungles, culminating in a rewarding visit to the ancient citadel.
  2. Explore by Bus: For family members or participants who prefer a more relaxed experience, we offer a comfortable bus journey. You'll visit all the key points of interest during the 4-day acclimatization period in Cusco, including sacred Inca sites and villages, without the need for camping or strenuous hiking.

Both groups will reunite at the majestic Machu Picchu, allowing everyone to experience this wonder of the world together.

Why Join the Salkantay Charity Challenge? -

Support Connectability Australia: Your fundraising (fund-raising is optional) will help empower individuals with disabilities in the Hunter region to live fuller, more connected lives. Every step you take in Peru will have a direct impact on their futures.

Experience Peru Your Way: Whether you choose to hike the Salkantay Trail or explore by bus, you’ll experience the cultural and natural beauty of Peru and end the journey at Machu Picchu with your loved ones.

Dual Impact: Not only will your efforts benefit people with disabilities in Australia, but by participating in this challenge, you will also support the local economy and communities in Cusco, Peru, through responsible and sustainable tourism.

Cultural Immersion and Expertise: Enjoy a culturally rich experience with local expert guides, Kenny Perez and Mauricio Alarico, accredited tour guides and licensed tour operators, who have deep connections to the people and history of Peru.
