About your trip

For seasoned skiers and splitboarders craving soaring peaks, snow-capped glaciers and fjords that cut deep into the Arctic coast—this trip is your chance to explore the untamed Arctic. Our small group size keeps each journey personal, so it’s best to book early.

Explore the mountains of Finnmark—landscapes tailor-made for extraordinary skiing. The wild, glacier-marked coastline creates a winter playground that’s hard to find anywhere else. Each day, you’ll skin up pristine mountains and ride new lines down untouched slopes, all while soaking in spectacular views across the horizon. With dynamic planning and flexible routes, you’ll work closely with the skipper and our IFMGA-certified guides to chase the best snow each day. Together, you’ll choose lines that match the group’s goals, from mellow bowls to steep couloirs that plunge toward the water’s edge. Sailing and living aboard Skydancer, a 73-foot sailboat, you’ll get the rare opportunity to explore a land sculpted by ice and sea—fully tuned into the rhythm of the Arctic.

Highlights Include

Live aboard SkyDancer, a schooner purpose-built for Arctic conditions.

Tour through Finnmark’s glacier-carved mountains, with flexible routes for intermediate and experienced skiers and splitboarders.

Choose your lines each day: gentle powder runs, challenging couloirs or laps through birch forest.

Break new ground in Norway’s raw frontier, on slopes few ever reach.

Experience jaw-dropping views at every turn, with the sea always in sight.

Slow down with warm meals and stories on board, taking in the stillness of the Arctic.

Travel with the best: a veteran sailing team and IFMGA-certified guides who know the terrain inside and out, balancing safety with deep local insight.

Activity Levels

Our trips are immersive and hands-on, created to help you connect with nature and push your boundaries. Our guides will set the pace based on group energy, but prepare for an active outdoor experience.

You’ll move from fjord to fjord by boat, then skin up summits on skis or splitboard before carving fresh lines down to the sea—no lifts, just pure backcountry. This trip is best suited for experienced skiers and riders ready to tackle raw terrain.

Average day: Expect 1,100 vertical meters (3,608 feet) of ascent and descent, with four to six hours spent on the mountain. Routes are tailored daily by our expert guide based on weather conditions and group experience.

Challenge day: When snow, weather and group energy align, we’ll find a challenge that lets us explore even more of Finnmark: a longer tour, a different fjord or even a hidden couloir. This isn’t fixed to a specific day, but always on our radar.

Climate Conditions

Weather: In April, daily highs average around 1°C (34°F), while evening lows near -3°C (27F).

Snow & terrain: With 50 to 100 centimeters (19 to 39 inches) of consistent monthly snowfall, you’ll find some of the season’s best powder—fresh, soft snow layered over a stable base.

Daylight: Moving into early April, the days stretch from 5:30 am to 8 pm. There’s a good chance we’ll catch the Northern Lights in the evenings—whether we’re touring with headlamps or relaxing on Skydancer.

Move with the wild

These highlights offer a sense of what to expect. But in true expedition style, each trip is shaped by the weather, snow conditions and the collective experience of the group. Your guides will adapt each day to make the most of the Arctic, so be ready for a dynamic adventure.

Day 1 (March 30):

Day 1 (March 30): image

Arrive in Alta and drive to Øksfjord

After your early afternoon arrival, we’ll drive two hours north to Øksfjord, where Skydancer awaits. Once on board, we’ll settle into our cabins, then enjoy welcome drinks while the captain runs through a quick safety briefing. Depending on the weather and sea conditions, we’ll either stay docked at the harbour or set sail into the fjords to kick off our Arctic expedition.

Day 2 (March 31):

Day 2 (March 31): image

Explore Tverrfjord’s snowy terrain

On our first full day, we’ll head across the fjord to Tverrfjord to explore a range of routes—from short, mellow tours to full-day adventures to the Øksfjord glacier. Traveling by boat gives us the freedom to start in one fjord, cross glacier or land and then be picked up in another fjord.

Days 3-6 (April 1-4):

Days 3-6 (April 1-4): image

Tour legendary peaks in the heart of Finnmark

We’ll sail along Finnmark’s rugged coastline and remote fjords, exploring Frakkfjord, Stjernøya island and beyond. Ullsfjord, Sør-Tverrfjord and Langfjordhamn are just a few of the remarkable places guiding our route. Each offers varied terrain: towering glaciers, steep couloirs and snow-capped mountains. When we’re not on land, we’ll take in the stillness of untouched north aboard SkyDancer.

Our plans will be fluid—influenced by sea, snow and the group’s abilities and goals. Feel free to join your guides for daily route-planning sessions and an inside look at how we craft each day’s adventure.

Day 7 (April 5)

Close out the week with a farewell descent

We’ll take one last ski tour and soak up the views before sailing back to Øksfjord. Once docked, we’ll gather for a farewell dinner aboard SkyDancer—and, if you’re up for it, stop by the local pub to toast the week.
