For intermediate skiers and boarders in search of mellow terrain with sweeping sea views and experts who crave steep lines, remote peaks, and the thrill of the unknown—this is your way in. Our small group size keeps each journey personal, so it’s best to book early.

Explore one of Europe’s last true frontiers on a week-long high-alpine ski tour—your chance to carve fresh tracks on untouched slopes few have seen. Set against sweeping fjords, sculpted peaks and soft Arctic light, you’ll roam across secluded, snow-covered terrain, where solitude and legendary descents await. Expect to ascend scenic summits, and if you’re up for it, drop into deep couloirs and traverse ridgelines high above the sea. Led by IFMGA-certified guides, this is Arctic ski touring at its purest: raw, remote and entirely your own.

Highlights Include

  • Tour untouched, uncrowded terrain in one of Europe’s wildest regions.

  • Summit glaciated peaks and ride a mix of terrain—from mellow bowls to challenging couloirs—carefully chosen each day to match conditions and group flow.

  • Journey by boat into remote fjords, where towering glaciers and icy waters shape the landscape.

  • Immerse yourself in the rhythm of life above the Arctic Circle, where skiing and nature are deeply intertwined with the local culture.

  • Paddle by sea kayak from the lodge when conditions allow, offering a quiet and scenic way to reach remote terrain.

  • Dine on gourmet meals made with fresh, local ingredients (including traditional Arctic barbecue).

  • Recharge in a cosy fjordside lodge with a sauna and stunning, panoramic views of the rugged north.

  • Travel with the best: IFMGA-certified guides who know the region inside and out, balancing safety with deep local insight.

Activity Levels

Our trips are immersive and hands-on, created to help you connect with nature and push your boundaries. Feel free to move at your own pace, but prepare for an active outdoor experience.

You’ll move through Arctic fjords and over steep mountain peaks, ascending on foot and descending along sea-facing slopes. This adventure is made for experienced skiers or splitboarders eager to leave crowds behind and explore far beyond the beaten path.

  • Average day: We’ll ascend and descend around 1,000 vertical meters (3,280 feet), spending four to six hours on the mountain. Our two expert guides will tailor each route to match group experience and conditions.
  • Challenge day: If the snow, weather and group align, we’ll take on steeper, longer routes. It’s not tied to a fixed day, but always on the radar.

Climate

This trip takes you through Låvan’s remote wilds, with routes adapted daily by our certified guides. Weather shapes the journey, so each day’s plan stays flexible. Our priority is to ensure safe, fresh tracks and an authentic Arctic ski experience.

  • Weather: Daytime highs range from -5°C to 0°C (23 to 32°F), with nighttime lows from -10°C to -15°C (14°F to 5°F). Inland and mountainous areas may see colder nights, but daylight extends to about 12 hours daily, giving you more time to explore.
  • Snow & Conditions: March brings longer days and mid-winter snowpack, offering reliable coverage from summit to sea. Shadier aspects hold cold, dry powder, while south-facing slopes soften in the sun as the seasons transition from winter to early spring.

Our Guides

Every Klättermusen Experience is led by IFMGA-certified guides with deep local insight, technical skill and a flexible, safety-first approach. These professionals don’t just follow the map; they adapt each day to the weather, terrain and group. Their expertise ensures you venture into remote, rugged landscapes with confidence and get the most out of every moment in the wild.

Accommodations

Our handpicked stays are locally owned, full of character and deeply connected to the landscape and culture. Expect comfort without excess, welcoming hosts and nature right at your doorstep.

Our home base for the entire trip will be Låvan Lodge, a traditional Norwegian house where you’ll get a real feel of local Arctic life. Expect a shared bathroom and single beds in cosy bedrooms—simple comforts that add to the charm of this authentic stay. At booking, you can choose between a single room and a shared double room.

Optional Add-On (Weather Dependent)

When conditions allow, sea kayaking may be included as part of the touring experience. Departing directly from the lodge, we paddle along the coastline towards the start of the day’s ski tour. It is a quiet, human-powered way to move through the landscape, offering a striking contrast between sea and land, and a deeper connection to the fjord environment.

Skis are secured on top of the kayaks, with gear packed in waterproof bags, and we provide all the necessary equipment and expertise to make it work smoothly. Kayaking can be part of the touring journey, or a rewarding alternative or follow-up to a day on skis. It is not only beautiful, but also a practical way to reach places that would otherwise be out of reach.

Please note that this activity is highly weather sensitive and only confirmed at the last minute, as calm sea conditions are essential.

Day 1 (March 22) image

Arrive in Alta, the “City of The Northern Lights”

After your early afternoon arrival, we’ll drive about an hour (depending on the snow conditions) to Låvan Lodge. Following the winding shores of Altafjord, the mountains rise and the wilderness settles in—your first glimpse of the adventure ahead. Once at the lodge, we’ll gather for a warm welcome, sharing drinks and a cosy dinner by the water’s edge.

Day 2 (March 23)

Day 2 (March 23) image

Tour the alpine bowl

Post-breakfast, we’ll ease into the week with a tour that may start right from the lodge. We’ll trace the fjord before climbing through birch forest to a large alpine bowl—an ideal warm-up with varied terrain and a range of route options.

Days 3-6 (March 24-27)

Days 3-6 (March 24-27) image

Classic ski days in legendary Finnmark

With decades of experience in this wild terrain, your guides will shape each day based on snowpack, weather and group energy. One day might take you deep into powder-filled glades, the next to a silent ridgeline with ocean views. These are routes few ever reach—remote and condition-dependent but always worth the effort.

Back at the lodge, the rhythm will slow: recover in a wood-fired sauna, refuel with chef-made meals and reflect on the day’s descent.

Day 7 (March 28)

Day 7 (March 28) image

Finish strong with one last descent

On our final full day, we’ll return to Jøkelfjord to ski Jonslettinden or Gievdnerášša, wrapping up the week with one last unforgettable descent. Back at the lodge, we’ll gather for a festive farewell dinner and toast to our Arctic adventure.

Day 8 (March 29)
