We'll be visiting Guatemala during Semana Santa, or "Holy Week", which is an incredible sight to see! The streets of Antigua will be covered in colorful decorations sawdust carpets throughout the city, blending Spanish Tradition and indigenous cultural beliefs.

After experiencing some of the festivities of Holy Week in Antigua, we'll be hiking Acatenango volcano, taking local cooking classes, yoga & paddleboaring in Lake Atitlan, and so much more! 

This 8 day / 7 night trip is sure to be unforgettable and I cannot wait for you all to experience the magic of Guatemala!

Arrive at La Aurora International Airport (GUA) and head to Anitgua with pre-arranged transfer. Once everyone arrives, we'll have a big welcome dinner to kickstart our epic Guatemala group trip!

Our first full day in Guatemala will be spent exploring this beautiful town. We'll start the morning with breakfast at the hostel before meeting up with our local guide who will take us on a walking tour around Antigua (including the famous Santa Catalina Arch). We'll also have the option to shop at  Nim Pot Market for souvenirs to bring home! We will be in Antigua during their Holy Week so we will be fortunate enough to see colorful decorations and cultural festivities taking place throughout the streets!

After an eventful morning, we'll have some downtime where you can choose what you'd like to do with your time (more souvenir shopping, walk around, go for lunch, relax, etc.) before a traditional Guatemalan cooking class later in the afternoon. We'll take a short ride to a local cooking school where we'll spend the evening learning about and tasting the true, traditional flavors of Guatemala.

After breakfast at the hostel this morning, we'll head to the base of the Acatenango Volcano where we'll get a briefing from the tour company about the overnight hike that we'll be embarking on today. We'll spend the rest of the morning / afternoon hiking up the volcano where we will spend the night at base camp. We'll watch sunset from basecamp with the opportunity to see lava flowing out of the volcano all night (weather permitting).

Accommodation: Soy Tours Base Camp on Acatenango Volcano

We'll start the morning with a hike from base camp to the summit of Acatenango where we will watch sunrise above the clouds. The hike is difficult but the views are incredible! We'll head back to base camp to enjoy breakfast & coffee before starting the hike back down the volcano. After freshening up, we'll have a big group lunch back in Antigua and the rest of the afternoon / evening will be free time to rest & relax after our strenuous volcano hike.

  • Sunrise hike to summit Acatenango

Today we are saying goodbye to Antigua and heading to Lake Atitlan! We'll start the morning with breakfast & coffee at the hostel before starting the drive to Panajachel where we'll be staying tonight. Once we arrive, we'll check into our accommodation for the night and have the opportunity to walk around town, do some shopping, grab something to eat, walk along the lake, etc. This afternoon is for you to do as you please!

Our first full day on Lake Atitlan will begin with breakfast at the hostel before taking a water taxi to San Marcos (a small town on the other side of the lake) where we will be taking a yoga class. Following the class, we have time for an optional lunch / snack before heading down to explore San Marcos, stop at some cliff jumping (optional), and spend the afternoon relaxing on the lake.

  • Transportation to/from Yoga Class

Today we will be spending the day out on the water! We'll start with breakfast at the hostel before taking a water taxi to Santa Cruz where we will embark on an amazing paddle boarding experience. With a local guide, we'll explore Santa Cruz And Jaibalito as a group via paddle boards. Afterwards, we can decide as a group how we want to spend the rest of our afternoon. This could be grabbing lunch in town and relaxing near the water, going back to the hostel for a mini pool party, etc.

The last day of our group trip and sadly time to say goodbye to Guatemala... We will have breakfast together at the hostel before heading back to GUA Airport where everyone will take their respective flights home.

Please note: our accommodation in Lake Atitlan will be a 3-4 hour drive away from the airport. Please do not book flights that depart before 12:00pm as it will be nearly impossible to be at the airport in time.
