The activity begins with a guided visit to the Gorreana Tea Plantation and Factory, which is currently the oldest in production in Europe. Enjoy a cup of the local tea!
We will then discover one of the most beautiful trails on the north coast of the island: Moinho do Felix. This 5,5 km long circular hike will take us on a 2-hour-long journey through a valley with a dense Japanese Cedar forest, passing by magical waterfalls and ruins of historic water mills that will give you a sense of Azorean life in the past--be sure to pack your bathing suit, as you will be able to swim in some of the pools created by the waterfalls!
Following on from this experience, we will enjoy a Welcome Lunch together and visit the Ribeira dos Caldeirões Natural Park, where you can enjoy more of our waterfalls and a visit to the Santa Iria viewpoint.
We will be hiking the trail of Serra Devassa - a circular route through a protected area covering a distance of around 7 km. This trail is an easy/medium level of difficulty and lasts around 2.5 hours.
Your day will end with a swim in the Ferraria Ocean Hot Spring. Contact us to customize your day!
Take a boat ride out to sea and keep your eyes open for the different whale species that pass through our waters.
If you’re lucky, you might spot whale cubs too, as the Azores is known to be the perfect haven for whales to have their young.
You never know what you’re going to see when you’re out on the water, but with a
knowledgeable and sharp-eyed marine biologist on board you will surely get the most out of this wild experience.
This hike up to one of the most picturesque views on the island is an absolute
must--with certainty one of the most beautiful hikes across the Azores: Lagoa
do Fogo (Fire Lake).
On this moderately difficult 12 km circular hike up to Lagoa do Fogo, you will witness stunning views of the south coast, including the Vila Franca do Campo islet, and discover the various endemic plant species along the steep and winding trail, such as the Azorean blueberry, juniper, and one of the last remaining laurisilva cloud forests.
Feel free to sleep in and take it easy.
Maybe spend the day at a nearby beach and have a lovely lunch by the sea or stroll through the streets of the city and buy some souvenirs to take home with you. You can also make the most of your last free day and book an extra excursion with us!
For more fun, we suggest our Ocean Kayaking tour: Grab a paddle and embark on an unforgettable journey to the emblematic Vila Franca do Campo Islet.
You will venture out into the Atlantic Ocean with our local nature guide, kayaking towards the islet — located about 1 km off the south coast of São Miguel — exploring its hidden caves and swim in the crystal-clear waters of the circular crater lagoon before paddling back.
If you’d rather like to take it easy but experience more of our island, you can also book a Jeep Tour!
This 4,5 km long hike of medium difficulty will take you on an approximately 2 hours long journey through one of the geologically oldest and historically most isolated regions in the south-west of the island, where you will traverse dense forests of acacia and picturesque valleys with rivers flowing directly into the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the 1 million-year-old Povoação Volcanic Complex,
the Sanguinho trail is famous for its awe-inspiring Salto do Prego waterfall and abundant vegetation, partcularly the endemic Azorean Buckthorn, to which the trail owes its name.
Following the hike, you will visit the nearby village of Furnas, which has attained global fame for its volcanic activity, boasting numerous geysers, as well as various hot springs and naturally sparking water flowing directly out of the ground – all of which are said to possess different healing properties.
To conclude our Furnas visit, we will stop at the botanical garden and take a hot bath at one of the natural thermal pools.
For our Farewell Dinner, we will enjoy the famous Cozido das Furnas, which is a local dish, with a variety of meats and vegetables, cooked underneath the ground by the volcanic vapors.
A transfer service will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the airport.
