This 5-day trek covers the central section of the Ak-Suu Transverse, one of Kyrgyzstan’s most scenic alpine routes. Starting from Kara-Kyz Village and finishing in Karakol Town, the trail passes lush alpine meadows, glaciated valleys, and high mountain passes. Highlights include Ala-Kul Lake, Altyn-Arashan Hot Springs, and panoramic views of 5,000+ m peaks. Participants stay in yurts, tents, and guesthouses, enjoying authentic Kyrgyz mountain experiences.

Karakol → Kara-Kyz Village → Jergez Gorge

Meet your guide in Karakol. Transfer to Kara-Kyz Village (~30 min) and trek into Jergez Gorge. Gentle introduction to alpine terrain; no passes today.

Day 2

Jergez Gorge → Almaluu Gorge

Trek along Jergez Valley, cross a small river, ascend toward Ailanysh Pass (3,676 m), and descend to Almaluu Gorge (~2,800 m). Optional waterfall hike.
Trekking distance: 13 km | Time: 5–6 h | Residence: Yurt camp | 🍽 Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Almaluu Gorge → Altyn-Arashan Hot Springs

Moderate climb through Almaluu Gorge, cross Ortok Pass (3,650 m), and descend into Altyn-Arashan Valley (2,500 m). Relax in hot springs.

Day 4

Altyn-Arashan → Ala-Kul North Pass → Altyn-Arashan

Cross the Ak-Suu River bridge, ascend to Ala-Kul North Pass (3,906 m), descend back to Altyn-Arashan Valley (2,500 m). Camp overnight in tents beside Ala-Kul Lake (3,550 m).

Day 5

Ala-Kul to Karakol Gorge→ Karakol Town

From our camp at Ala-Kul, we continue westward, mostly downhill, covering 11 km to our next campsite in Karakol Gorge. Along the way, you’ll notice a few other campsites with yurts. Our endpoint is a historic alpine base camp, used during Soviet times.

We’ll take a short break for tea at the camp before being picked up by car and driven to Karakol, marking the end of the trekking program.
