This course is for Level 2 graduates, those with previous whitewater packrafting experience wanting to strengthen paddle skills & boat control in class III whitewater.
Participants MUST have formal river safety training & have prior experience reading and paddling up to class III whitewater with adequate boat control. This course build on the Level 2 course content, with less time spend on river rescue scenarios & more time refining boat control & personal paddle skills.
Prerequisites:
Previous Level 2 APS Course Graduate (or equivalent training) & familiar with Level 2 course curriculum (refer to Level 2 page)
Ability to self rescue or rescue w/ partner assistance
Ability to catch eddies in class II/III river environments
Swiftwater Rescue Training within last 3 years
Students provide their own, are familiar with & proficient using all necessary gear: packraft, paddle, drysuit, ww helmet, ww PFD (whistle & river knife required), throw rope
(W/ appropriate whitewater outfitting: combing & spray skirt or self-bailer, foot block, backband, thigh straps, seat
Climbing/bike helmets not acceptable
Min 15.5 lbs floatation, must have whistle and rescue knife
Large power face; under 210 cm, breakdown or full-length okay
50ft min
Running shoes or neoprene paddling booties — nothing open-toed or crocs
