Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius

10.2 Guided Pompeii tour -

Learn about this ancient city!

  • Location and History:Pompeii was located in southern Italy, near the Gulf of Naples, and was a prosperous town with a population of around 10,000 to 20,000 residents.
  • Destruction: On August 24, 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius erupted, spewing ash, rock, and volcanic gases that buried Pompeii under a thick layer of ash and pumice.
  • Preservation: The volcanic ash preserved the city, its buildings, and even the remains of its inhabitants, offering archaeologists a remarkably detailed snapshot of Roman life.
  • Archaeological Site: Today, Pompeii is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major archaeological site, where visitors can explore the preserved streets, buildings, and artifacts.
  • Insights into Roman Life: The ruins of Pompeii provide valuable insights into daily life, urban planning, social structures, and economic activities of the Roman Empire.
  • Examples of preserved structures: The forum, the main square of the town, the Stabian Baths, the Pompeii Theatre, and the Garden of Fugitives are some of the notable structures that have been preserved.
  • Graffiti: Archaeologists have found graffiti written on the walls of Pompeii, providing insights into the thoughts and opinions of the people who lived there.
  • Other interesting facts: Pompeii had one-way streets, street crossings, and heavy traffic, and people went out to eat.

Amalfi Coast shopping, dining, sight seeing + exploration

10.4 Leaving Naples. Heading to our Amalfi Hotel to explore the Amalfi coast! Beach, rest, relax, shop (Micro photo shoots here)

Amalfi is a town in a dramatic natural setting below steep cliffs on Italy’s southwest coast. Between the 9th and 11th centuries, it was the seat of a powerful maritime republic. The Arab-Norman Sant'Andrea cathedral at the heart of town, with its striped Byzantine facade, survives from this era.

One look at the Amalfi Coast and you may believe that you've found heaven on earth. That's the kind of spellbinding effect this stretch of Italian coastline tends to have on the 5 million annual visitors who cross its mesmerizing paths. Located in the Campania region of Italy, this UNESCO World Heritage Site covers 34 miles of majestic terrain; sky-high costal cliffs display vibrant vegetation and multicolored towns live side by side with the disarming turquoise waters of the Mediterranean, creating a scene that has the power to awe even the most seasoned of travelers.

And OH the pasta here and the experience of eating it here in the town square!!!

The pastel-colored Positano draws in the rich and famous for its luxurious cliffside resorts and fine Italian dining, while the town of Amalfi is Italy's oldest maritime republic, once serving as a big commercial and technical hub in the Mediterranean.  Incredible food and shopping can be found here.

We will ferry over to Capri to spend the day exploring! Incredible views and shopping await! Additional photo opportunities here at an incredibly picturesque point from the Monte Solaro Capri Chair lift! When we get to the top we can snack and enjoy the views with a glass of wine!

Capri is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, including the iconic Blue Grotto and Faraglioni rock formations, as well as its glamorous atmosphere and rich history, making it a popular destination for both tourists and celebrities.
