Upon arrival to the Istanbul International Airport, we will meet our guide in the arrival’s hall and head to your 4 star hotel. Dinner and overnight in Istanbul.
After enjoying our Turkish breakfast, we depart from our hotel and begin our tour of the historical highlights of Istanbul. First, we will stroll through Hippodrome Square, the former sporting and social center of Constantinople that hosted chariot races during the Roman period. And then, we will walk directly across from the mosque to visit the domed masterpiece of the Hagia Sophia before we head to Topkapi Palace. Located on the very cape of the peninsula where Constantinople was founded, Topkapi Palace is the former abode of Ottoman Sultans that still houses their legion of treasures, including an extensive collection of royal jewels. Then, we will end our day with an evening of shopping at the Grand Bazaar, the massive covered market that houses a labyrinth of streets lined with shops selling jewelry, leather products and many other handcrafted souvenirs. After breakfast, we drive to Akhisar, ancient Thyatira, hometown of the New Testament Jezebel. The church of Thyatira was praised for its increasing faith but criticized for its tolerance of Jezebel (Rev. 2:18-28). We reach Pergamon, the church that John both affirmed and chastised (Rev. 2:12-17) by his famous statement “where Satan has its throne”. Pergamon (Acropolis) was the capital of a Hellenistic Kingdom of that name, which ruled western Asia Minor. Drive to Izmir. Dinner and overnight in Izmir.
Depart from Hotel, visit the nearby ruins of Hierapolis, an important seat of early Christianity. Hierapolis, today called Pamukkale, the Cotton Fortress, because of its white calcium formations. We visit the visually intriguing calcium pools. Afterwards, continue to Laodicea, “ I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.'"). Continue to Kusadasi for dinner and overnight in Kusadasi.
After breakfast drive to Priene, has many examples of Hellenic art and architecture. Alexander the Great lived in this city for a time. The theatre in Priene is one of the most beautiful ones from The Hellenic World. Continue to Miletos and visit the ancient city of Miletus which once was one of the biggest cities in Anatolia. It was located on the trade routes and it was for this reason that it became very prosperous and had many colonies. Miletos is famous for its genius philosophers and architects, such as Thales, Anaximander’s, Anaximenes, Hippodamos and Isidoros. Last stop will be Dydima, a temple dedicated to Apollon. It was once one of the biggest temples in the Hellenic World. Drive back to Kusadası for dinner and overnight.
Drive to Ephesus, one of the New Testament's most significant cities (Rev. 2:1-7). Apostle Paul came here in 53 A.D. and according to tradition Apostle John wrote his Gospel here. Visit the Archaeological site including colorful mosaics in the aristocratic Terrace Houses and finally visit to the Basilica of John the Evangelist. This will be a day you never forget as you walk on the streets and explore the archaeological site of Ephesus. Dinner and overnight in Kusadasi.
We continue our jouney today to the ancient port of Alexandria Troas (Acts16:13), where he raised from death a boy named Eutychus (Acts 20:7). Next we drive to Troy, site of the Trojan War on which Homer based the Iliad. Founded 5000 years ago, it controlled the Dardanelles until the Roman era. Dinner and overnight in Canakkale.
Today we will drive back to Istanbul. Upon arrival in the afternoon we will take time to go shopping at the world famous Spice Bazaar. Also, known as the Egyptian Bazaar, this large covered market has remained the city’s center for spice trade since its creation in the 17th century. Then, we will embark on a cruise of the Bosphorus, the winding straight that separates Europe and Asia and connects the Black Sea with the inland Sea of Marmara. This is our time to relish the views of the old wooden mansions, Ottoman palaces, and ancient fortresses that dot the river’s coast. Dinner and overnight in Istanbul.
After breakfast, your driver and tour guide will take your group to the Istanbul International Airport for your return flight home.
