September 16 – 30, 2026
(Optional add-on: Astorga to Ponferrada, Sept 30 – Oct 3)
Walk the Camino de Santiago from Burgos to Astorga — a journey through Spain’s heartland where open skies and ancient paths invite stillness, clarity, and renewal.
This stage of the Camino welcomes both new travelers and those continuing from earlier routes. Whether this is your first step or the next chapter of your pilgrimage, the experience offers a balance of outer movement and inner reflection, grounded in connection and sisterhood.
Along the way, you’ll explore your inner journey through The Work of Byron Katie, guided reflections, and moments of quiet woven into each day. Whether you join to deepen your spiritual practice, find renewal through walking, or simply savor time with kindred women, this section of the Camino offers a rhythm that restores what the world has worn thin.
Together, we’ll walk in sisterhood — carried by the rhythm of our feet, the laughter of shared meals, and the grace of a path that has welcomed seekers for more than a thousand years.

Growth is at the heart of our Camino experience. Before departure, we’ll gather on Zoom to connect, review logistics, and set intentions for the journey ahead.
You’re invited to join Camino host and Certified Facilitator of The Work of Byron Katie, Aileen Cheatham, for an optional three-session online workshop (included with your trip). Together, we’ll explore A Thousand Names for Joy and practice The Work, preparing body, mind, and spirit for the Way.
Travel through the European city of your choice — most likely Madrid — and take a train to Burgos, Spain, where our journey begins.
This historic Castilian city, famed for its magnificent Gothic cathedral and medieval charm, offers the perfect starting point to settle in and meet your fellow pilgrims.
We’ll gather for a group welcome and dinner on the evening of the 17th to open our shared pilgrimage in reflection, intention, and joy.(D)
Over twelve unforgettable days, we’ll walk approximately 150 miles through the regions of Castile and León, following the golden arrows westward.
Each day unfolds with its own rhythm — morning stretches or reflections, hours of walking through wheat fields and timeless villages, shared meals, and moments of rest or quiet companionship.
Along this stretch — often called the spiritual heart of the Camino — highlights include:
Hornillos del Camino and Castrojeriz, villages that feel lifted from another century
Frómista, with its Romanesque Church of San Martín
Carrión de los Condes, once a center of monastic learning and hospitality
Sahagún, blending Christian and Moorish artistry
León, radiant with stained-glass light — where we pause for a day to rest and explore
Astorga, crowned by Gaudí’s whimsical Episcopal Palace — a fitting end to this chapter of the Way
Each evening brings a cozy stay in locally-owned inns or small hotels, time for journaling, and the simple pleasure of pilgrim dinners shared in gratitude.
After breakfast, we’ll gather one last time to honor the steps we’ve taken — both outer and inner — before parting ways or continuing onward.
You may choose to linger in Astorga for a relaxed morning, explore the cathedral and Gaudí Palace, or begin your journey home.
Or join us for the optional three-day continuation to Ponferrada.
From Astorga, we climb gently into the mountainous region of León, walking through Rabanal and up to the Cruz de Ferro, the highest point on the Camino. Pilgrims have laid stones here for centuries — symbols of what they’re ready to release.
We then descend through the charming town of Molinaseca and finish in Ponferrada, where a Templar castle overlooks the city.
Our journey closes here — surrounded by beauty, sisterhood, and the quiet joy that lingers after the Way.
Your Honest Heart journey can continue after you arrive home. We'll host a group call several weeks after we get home so all can share further highlights and where our Life Camino is taking us. There will also be opportunities for you to continue to dive into The Work of Byron Katie with Aileen and each other.
It's also fun to see you embrace further trips so you can continue to travel with your HHJ sisters!
