As soon as you arrive at Cairo International Airport, you will see our airport agent holding a sign with your name on it. They will help you get your Egyptian visa, lead you through baggage claim, and then escort you to our hotel.
You will have free time at the hotel to unpack, get settled into your room, and maybe even relax by the pool. Everyone will meet back up to meet each other and our Egyptologist tour guide who will be touring us around for the week.
No meals are included on your first day, as everyone will be arriving at varying times and may be adjusting to the time difference. However, there are several restaurants at the hotel for you to enjoy.
After having breakfast at the hotel, we will visit one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World - The Great Pyramids of Giza! These are the best preserved pyramids in Egypt, and they are incredible to behold in person. Not only will you get to marvel at the exterior, you'll get to go INSIDE one of them if you'd like.
We will then visit The Great Sphinx, which is located directly beside the pyramids. It is the oldest and biggest human-headed statue with the body of a lion ever known from Ancient Egypt.
We will also visit the Valley temple, where the mummified bodies of Egyptian Pharaohs were prepared before they headed to their final burials inside the Pyramids.
Everyone will then get to enjoy a camel ride in front of the pyramids with plenty of opportunity for individual and group photos.
We will end the day with a visit to the Papyrus Institute, where you will learn the ancient technique of how Egyptians make paper from the Papyrus plant. You will have the chance to purchase your own papyrus artwork - this makes a fantastic souvenir!
Dinner will be at a restaurant that overlooks the pyramids, where you will have the chance to try authentic Egyptian food.
*Breakfast and Lunch are included today. Dinner is not included.
Breakfast will be enjoyed at the hotel before heading out for the day's activities.
Did you know there are numerous pyramid sites in Egypt? Today, we will be heading to Sakkara to visit the oldest stone building in the world, known as the Step Pyramid. You will also get the chance to visit a private tomb in the oldest necroppolis (the Tomb of Gagenni) and then go inside the Pyramid of King Teti.
We will end the day by touring a carpet school, where you will get to see firsthand the intricate detail that goes into making a carpet by hand. You will also have the opportunity to purchase carpets or wallhangings if you wish.
For an additional $80 USD, you can add on the experience of quad biking around The Great Pyramids!
*Breakfast and lunch are included today. Dinner is not included.
You will have breakfast at the hotel before we take an early flight from Cairo to Luxor. Upon arrival, you will visit Karnak Temple Complex - a vast open-air museum and the second largest ancient religious site in the world! Construction at Karnak started 4,000 years ago and continued for 2,000 years. Each Egyptian ruler who worked at Karnak left his or HER own architectural mark. Approximately 30 pharaohs contributed to the buildings here, creating a complex like any other.
We will then drive to our Nile River Cruise boat, check in & have lunch on board. The afternoon will be spent relaxing and enjoying the beautiful views of the Nile.
In the evening, we will visit Luxor Temple - a beautiful structure packed with history and legends. Construction took around 100 years and was added to by four different pharaohs.
We will also visit the newly opened Avenue of Sphinxes. This 1.7 mile long avenue connects Karnak Temple with Luxor Temple, with sphinxes and ram-headed statues flanking both sides.
*Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included
Enjoy breakfast on the cruise before heading off to explore the Valley of the Kings.
There is an optional sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings for $195 USD per person. This is an absolutely fantastic experience that we highly recommend!
You will then get to explore the Valley of the Kings on foot. This is the most historically significant site in the world. For the past 200 years, archaeologists have been exploring the site and have discovered 65 ancient tombs. The most famous of these is King Tut! You will get to enter King Tut's tomb as well as others.
We will then take a short drive to Queen Hatshepsut's Temple. Hatshepsut was a strong Queen who ruled for almost 22 years.
We will end our visit to the West Bank of Luxor with a visit to the largest statues ever sculpted in the area, known as the Colossi of Memnon.
*Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included today
Enjoy breakfast on the boat before we visit Edfu Temple, the best preserved temple of the Ancient World. It is dedicated to Horus, the falcon god. It was built between 237 and 57 BC and is known for its gigantic pylons.
We will then get back on our boat and cruise for around 6 hours, giving you time to have lunch onboard.
Later in the afternoon, we will visit Kom Ombo Temple. One side of the temple is dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek, god of fertility and creator of the world. The other side is dedicated to the falcon god, Horus.
Nearby, we will also visit the Crocodile Mummification Museum. You will see the well-preserved remains of crocodiles, cats, fish, and other animals that were mummified by the ancient Egyptians. This experience will provide you with a better understanding of the ancient art of mummification and the role it played in ancient Egyptian life.
*Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included today
Breakfast will be enjoyed on the cruise. Those who have purchased the add on to visit Abu Simbel ($190/person) will head out for most of the day and anyone who does not wish to go will have free time on the cruise to relax.
Abu Simbel is one of the best preserved temples in Egypt, and it is gigantic. The temple made headlines in the 1960s when rising waters from the Nile resulted in the temples having to be moved - a monumental effort headed by UNESCO.
In the evening, we will take a felucca sailboat ride on the Nile followed by a walking tour of the spice souk in Aswan.
*Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included today
After breakfast we will check out of the Nile cruise and visit the Island of Philae. Here, we will explore the beautiful waterside Temple of Isis. The temple walls contain stunning scenes of Egyptian mythology, most notably that of Isis bringing Osiris back to life, giving birth to Horus, and mummifying Osiris after his death.
This was the last temple built in the classical Egyptian style. The temple is beautiful, not just because of its massive hieroglyphics, but because it is surrounded by the beauty of the Nile River.
We will have lunch at a local restaurant before flying back to Cairo (1.5 hour flight).
We will have breakfast at the hotel and then start our day with a tour of the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum. This is the largest archaeological museum in the world, housing thousands of artifacts from Ancient Egypt.
After, we will stop for lunch in an authentic local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Coptic District and visit the oldest churches of The Virgin Mary, known as The Hanging Church (4th century) and the Church of St. Sergius (where Mary, Joseph, and Jesus are said to have rested when fleeing from Herod).
In the afternoon, we will enjoy a walking tour of the oldest Souk Market of Khan El Khalili.
We will have a farewell dinner & then sadly, it will then be time to depart Cairo and head back home!
