We welcome you to join us in Houston, TX for The Return of Sankofa! We are honored to celebrate our 16th year of Line Dance Wellness with you.

Sankofa (pronounced SAHN-koh-fah) is a word from the Twi language of Ghana that means “to retrieve” or “go back and get it.” It embodies the idea of looking to the past to inform the future, emphasizing the importance of learning from history. The term is often associated with a proverb that states, “It is not taboo to go back for what you forgot”. Sankofa is also represented by a symbol, often depicted as a bird with its head turned backward, symbolizing the act of reaching back to gather knowledge and wisdom.

Sankofa is a line dance event you have to EXPERIENCE and it has Never Disappointed.

Houston has two major airports. The host hotel is closer to Hobby (HOU) than (IAH).

Renting a car or using Lyft or Uber will be necessary.

The hotel block is available from 9/3 to 9/7 for line dance family who arrive early or stay late.

2. Saturday Workshop Golden Spirits 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM

   Host Hotel - Wyndham Houston near NRG Park, 8686 Kirby Drive, Houston, TX 77054

   • Attire: Yellow Event T Shirt and Blue

   • Vibe: A celebration of self-love, community beauty, and appreciation of legendary classic line dances

   • Lite Bites Provided

   • Food Truck Available for your Lunch Purchase

3. Saturday Evening Sankofa Celebration is African Royalty Night / Futuristic Sankofa (AfroFuturism) 7:00 PM until 1:00 AM

   Kings Banquet Hall 2902 Almeda Genoa Road Houston, TX 77047

   • Attire: Ankara, kente, dashikis, gele headwraps, or African print accessories. Metallics, tribal-inspired accessories, bold face paint, cosmic looks.

   • Vibe: Celebrate African roots with bold prints and regal energy at the intersection where heritage meets the future — think Black Panther “Wakanda Forever.”

4. Sunday Funday H-Town Rodeo Style 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM Location TBA

   • Attire: Cowboy hats, boots, fringe, western shirts, and denim.

   • Vibe: Houston flair — Never leave Houston on a Sunday! Trust us, you want to stick around or hear about it later!
