The Newport News/Hampton Area Missionary Council (NNAHAMC) will return to Loíza, Puerto Rico from July 20-25, 2026 to continue its mission outreach and strengthen partnerships with local leaders, churches, and community organizations.

Founded in 1974, the Council represents 20 missionary churches in Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, with a long tradition of service that includes:

• Angel Tree projects for children

• School adoptions to provide supplies and mentorship

• Cancer society fundraising (Relay for Life)

• Community give-aways with food, clothing, and essentials

• Home and foreign missions supporting families locally and abroad

This visit will build on the relationships established during the Council’s previous trip to Puerto Rico, reaffirming its commitment to support Loíza’s families, artists, and faith-based organizations.

Loíza is known as the cultural heart of Afro-Puerto Rican heritage, with deep traditions of bomba music, artistry, and resilience. At the same time, many families continue to face challenges, including homes still covered with blue tarps left from Hurricane María.

By returning to Loíza, the Missionary Council will:

• Meet with local leaders and the mayor’s office to understand current needs

• Partner with faith-based organizations to provide direct family support

• Explore ways to help fund roof repairs and housing improvements

• Strengthen ties with artists, musicians, and cultural leaders who play a key role in preserving community identity

This mission trip is one step in a long-term partnership between the Missionary Council and the people of Loíza. By walking alongside local leaders, the Council seeks to support both the spiritual and practical needs of the community, ensuring that families are not only uplifted but also empowered.
