ASIAGO WWI HERITAGE TOUR (with support vehicle)

A mountain bike journey through history and remembrance

Five days among stone, wind, and silence.
Five days in which the mountains are not just a landscape, but guardians of ancient stories, of courage and sacrifice.

The journey begins across high pastures scented with fresh hay, where the malghe still tell the age-old rhythm of transhumance. Here, for centuries, people have lived in dialogue with the mountains, turning grass into milk, milk into cheese, and silence into culture. The Altopiano welcomes the rider with its simple hospitality and the slow, steady breath of nature.

Then memory becomes tangible. At the Sacrario di Asiago, thousands of names carved in stone whisper stories of youth taken too soon, of men and women who gave everything. Forte Lisser watches over the valleys like a sentinel from an age of iron, and the heart bows before a silence dense with courage and pain.

The climb toward Cima Portule is an ascent into the very heart of the front line. The Strade della Guerra open windows onto history among switchbacks and trenches, while at Bivio Italia the air still carries the echo of decisions that shaped collective destinies. This is a ride that becomes a pilgrimage, a meeting point between majestic nature and the fragile resilience of humankind.

Monte Verena and Forte Campolongo rise as silent witnesses to a time that must never be forgotten. The air seems to carry the distant sound of the cannon that opened the hostilities. Rock and stone speak of battles, resistance, and everyday heroism. Here, the wind carries the memory of soldiers who faced fear with the strength of their spirit, and every trace of war becomes a lesson in respect and remembrance.

The journey reaches its climax on Monte Cengio, where the Salto dei Granatieri carves the greatness of sacrifice deep into the heart. Men who chose devotion to their homeland, facing the abyss with immortal courage. Here, where the mountain becomes a sanctuary, silence is not emptiness, but an echo of memory and gratitude.

Five days in the saddle, along trails and sweeping views, between history and nature, leave the heart full and the mind at peace. At the end of the journey, every climb, every descent, and every shared silence becomes a thread linking past and present, memory and freedom. On the Altopiano di Asiago, riding is more than sport: it is a way to feel history, breathe the mountains, and carry a piece of that magic with you forever.

Tour Loop Malghe e Cimiteri Inglesi Domenica — 48 km | 1130 m

A circular route immersed in the tranquillity of green pastures and framed by mountain landscapes, the Asiago Plateau reveals itself through its mountain huts—authentic witnesses to a rural life deeply rooted in the land. These huts are not merely shelters, but intrinsic elements of the plateau’s morphology, scattered across an ideal territory for lovers of mountain photography and wide, open horizons.

As the route follows the very edge of the plateau, sweeping aerial views unfold in constant succession: hills, ridges, and peaks appear and dissolve as you ride, suspended between the deep abysses of Val d’Assa and the pale silhouettes of the Dolomites. The journey moves between the imposing bastions of Monte Cengio and the distant plains below, tracing a landscape shaped equally by geology, history, and light.

The tour embraces the plateau in its entirety, linking mountain huts and green meadows with the forests of Barenthal, the rolling pastures of Asiago, and the beautiful cycle path created along the route of the former rack railway. This historic line, with its tunnels carved directly into the rock, adds a final layer of character to a ride where nature, history, and movement are inseparably intertwined.
