Tour & Tasting at Marchesi di Barolo

Guided tour of the historic cellars followed by a tour dedicated to discovering our most representative wines. Selection of five wines (two of which are Barolos, including a Cru or Riserva). Nestled in the heart of Barolo village, Marchesi di Barolo is the birthplace of the modern Barolo wine, first crafted in the early 19th century by Marchesa Giulia Colbert Falletti and her husband, Marchese Carlo Tancredi Falletti. She transformed Nebbiolo from a sweet, sparkling style into the full-bodied, noble wine we know today—and famously sent hundreds of oak casks to the royal court in Turin, earning Barolo its title: “the Wine of Kings.” In 1929, the Abbona family acquired the historic cellars and vineyards, and through six generations continue to steward the estate’s tradition, aging delicious wines in centuries-old barrels (“Botti della Marchesa”) and crafting single‑vineyard crus like Cannubi, Sarmassa, and Coste di Rose. Today, guided tours and tastings in the original cellars offer visitors an immersive journey through Barolo’s legacy.

Tour & Tasting at Antoniolo Società Agricola

Antoniolo is considered the benchmark winery of the Gattinara region because it was the first to recognize and champion the potential of this small Alto Piemonte appellation long before it gained wider fame. Founded in 1948, Antoniolo was one of the earliest estates to bottle and label Gattinara wines under its own name rather than selling grapes to larger producers, helping establish Gattinara’s identity as a premium Nebbiolo-producing area. The family was also a pioneer in single-vineyard bottlings, showcasing the distinct personalities of crus such as Osso San Grato, San Francesco, and Le Castelle—a forward-thinking approach at a time when most producers blended fruit from multiple vineyards. Their work proved that Gattinara’s volcanic and glacial soils could produce Nebbiolo wines with structure, elegance, minerality, and exceptional aging potential, rivaling the more famous Barolo and Barbaresco. Today, Antoniolo’s commitment to traditional, low-intervention winemaking, long aging in large oak casks, and maintaining high standards has made them the reference point for quality in Gattinara and a key reason why the region is now respected among the great Nebbiolo terroirs of Piedmont.
