Past Trips

This was such an unexpected great trip for me and my boyfriend. We were referred to Stillwater last minute trying to book accommodations for a wedding close by, and it was the best referral I have gotten to date. We had to come in late our first day due to festivities, but we wish we were able to able to spend a full weekend at Tao and Amy's bed & breakfast and retreat center. The two of them were so accommodating to us both. The house as a whole was beautifully rebuilt by Tao and Amy since a fire in 2014, and each room used objects from the first house- including as much wood as possible. They were decorated in a way that made me want to photograph them and put them in a magazine. Before even talking to them about their lives, we knew they had to be artists. The room we stayed in was awesome to the point where I needed to ask about the pillows and bedding. Amy and Tao went out of their way to make breakfast for four guests, as if we were a retreat-sized group, which was so kind of them. We got to meet the other guests over breakfast and try Tao's famous savory corn cakes- something I will try to recreate for years to come. When it was almost time to go, we were lucky to get a tour of the property and cabins from Tao, who has lived here is entire life! Words don't do Stillwater justice, from the space they created, the trails they have for hiking, the accommodations for weddings, retreats, or special events, and the beautiful pond and landscape surrounding the main house. As a found object / mixed media / installation enthusiast myself, it was very exciting to hear and see what went into building pretty much everything at Stillwater. Each cabin on the property was unique, and felt like being in one of Tao's own installations. I could totally see my friends and family coming here for a wedding, retreat, or weekend to hang, and loving every second of the relaxation and environment they would be staying in! Staying here felt like we were truly immersed in something peaceful, artistic, and refreshing. We definitely would like to return for a weekend where we have no plans, as you could spend the entire day relaxing on the property or chatting with Tao and Amy. Thank you again for such a lovely visit and the chance to meet you both. We look forward to seeing you again and sharing word on our time here with friends and family.
As always, Amy and Tao outdid themselves to make our retreat something truly special. Wholesome, delicious food beautifully presented, superb accommodations, and wonderful grounds to enjoy. I loved being out on the kayak and I appreciated the opportunity to create fresh flower arrangements with cuttings from the property. Can't wait to return!
we had a wonderful retreat. Thanks to Still Waters, our every need was met, from dietary concerns, cleanliness, comfortable beds and linens, quiet ,. this is by far the best place I have held retreats , both in the USA and Europe. There was very little energy needed for logistical concerns, which offered us as organizers of the retreat, to focus on the nature of the retreat. We will be back! Tom Duva
A beautiful location tucked away in the woods in Connecticut Pristine location on a beautiful lake ideal for Kayaking and canoeing The property is very well manicured. With tall majestic evergreens and maples. The cabins are very well maintained, clean and modern. Inn-keepers Amy and Tao are a delight. This was the perfect weekend get away to unplug and recharge. We came from Eastern Long Island, hopped on the Orient Point Ferry and was there in no time. Very conveniently located. We stayed in the main house and took advantage of the meal services and was delighted with every service. Wholesome home cooking made with love. Big portions and great selections. 4 Stars all around. We definitely want to come back in the Autumn to see the foliage colors - I bet its amazing. A truly glorious retreat -
My second retreat at Stillwater's Retreat Center and it continues to be a restorative and heart-opening experience. Peaceful environment, comfortable accomodations, excellent meals and great and welcoming hosts in Tao and Amy. Highly recommend this retreat center for established groups of 10-12 people for weekend or weekday retreats.
Still Waters is a wonderful setting for this retreat. It is located in a beautiful setting, with a lovely lake suitable for boating, and it is beautifully landscaped with many wonderful plantings and other features. The accommodations are varied, ranging from more rustic ones (though still very comfortable and well appointed) to the main house, which is beautifully appointed with many exquisite features, and with more amenities such as air conditioning, beautifully decorated and comfortable bedrooms and sitting areas, and very stylish and functional bathrooms. Amy and Tao are extraordinary hosts; they are very committed and skillful at making their guests feel welcome and special, and they are extremely thorough in their attention to detail and meeting the diverse needs of their guests. Amy is an extraordinary cook and goes to great lengths to make the food she offers both very healthy and very delicious. All in all this was a wonderful place to spend a thoroughly delightful weekend.
This was such a wonderful gift to lead a group of women at Stillwaters Retreat. It was a complete mind, body, spirit experience. The atmosphere was tranquil and welcoming, the food magnificent, the hospitality tremendous. I would definitely come back and lead another retreat here
I recently led a retreat at Still Waters retreat Center and I could not have been more pleased.! Amy & Tao hold nurturing space for all. The accommodations are lovely, clean and so interesting too! The food absolutely delicious and made with love. Amy & Tao supported us in our teaching and took such loving care of all the guests. I look forward to returning to teach or as a guest very soon!
This trip was amazing from the moment I entered the driveway and saw the waterfall. The grounds, hiking trail and retreat center are filled with love, attention to detail and works of art at every turn. Great energy and care from the retreat owners and the retreat facilitators. Food was phenomenal!
Still Waters is a beautiful place for any retreat. Grateful for the warm hospitality, the lovely location and home.
For me this was a special weekend retreat enhanced by the environment, the suburb accommodations, the caring and thoughtful staff and the wonderful meals. This is a Place of natural wonder and careful planning by the management of all the amenities That make for a perfect time. For example, the beds all have comfortable pedic mattresses Unlike the skimpy mattresses often found at retreat environments. This is a second generation Family run environment who take care and pride in presenting a top drawer setting.
This was my third stay With Stillwaters. In my travels in this country and in Europe, I haven’t had a better place to attend a retreat or workshop It’s clean with beautiful surroundings. The meals are nutritious delicious . The beds are very comfortable and the bedding of high Quality. We’re already planning another visit!
Had an amazing weekend here with wonderful company. Amy made really delicious food and Tao was a great host. Would definitely come back in the future! House is beautifully furnished and is a great place for reflection and peace.
Great retreat! Amy and Tao were gracious, kind, attentive hosts. Accomdations were comfortable and beautiful. The meals were fantastic! I highly recommend this retreat center.
This was my third time at Still Waters Pond retreat center, and the hospitality is as great as ever. Delicious and healthy food, lovely linens and bath products, gorgeous grounds, and attractive, comfortable spaces with art and interest everywhere. Can't wait to return!
Still Waters Retreat Center provides exactly what is advertises. I needed a peaceful weekend in a beautiful place and got that and more. The grounds and the house are just beautiful, the food was delicious, and the energy was peaceful. Local artwork is found in the house and when hiking the grounds, adding to the lovely ambience. Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this experience. The accommodations were excellent. The food and ambience were unforgettable. Amy and Tau are marvelous hosts. I would recommend this retreat facility to all.
This is my second time at Still Waters Pond retreat center, and it was as lovely as the first. Food, accommodations, property, art, meditation space... all made my birthday weekend wonderful. And most of all the warm presence of Amy and Tao (and Maggie and Beebee!)!
Everything about Still Waters is superlative. From the moment we were on site, the calm and peaceful energies of the space invited any stress to simply fall away. Amy and Tao, the owners/caretakers of the buildings and land, are incredibly welcoming and invite you into Still Waters, to leave your cares behind. The website says, "Relax. Refresh. Retreat." That really does capture the Still Waters experience. We had the opportunity to spend time in the main house, Cottage Duality, and also wandering the site a bit. The accommodations in both the main house and Cottage Duality are exceptional. We stayed in Cottage Duality, and couldn't have been happier. Technically, the cottage could be considered "rustic." It's bright, inviting, and soothing; the bed is incredibly comfortable. There are inviting places to sit on the porch, or even in the room itself, watching and being among the quiet sounds of nature. The main house is equally inviting -- the wrap-around deck that provides the opportunity to pull up a chair and relax; stand and gaze out upon the property; or have a large dinner party around the tall tables built and crafted by Tao. We did all of these things -- and every moment was amazing. We also had a quiet breakfast, with delicious food prepared by Amy, the morning before we left. It was sumptuous. In addition to the basics (which were far beyond basic!) like coffee, tea, and juice, Amy made the most delectable french toast, accompanied by incredibly delicious maple bacon. All of that, plus a green smoothie that was equally yummy. Wow! What this review has yet to capture are the details. The house, the cottage, the site -- the details are incredible. From the beautiful stone sinks and the "coat racks" (brought to life by Tao from reclaimed boards and repurposed objects, such as old doorknobs), to the living spaces inside and outside. Every single space I was in felt so good, so right. The elements and energy in each and every space invited peace and serenity. Two other key details are Amy and Tao. They are not only incredible hosts -- knowing when to connect with you in the space, and also when to let you be in space alone -- but also such gentle stewards of the land and space. It feels like they have ushered forth the energy in the land and spaces that wanted to be shared. They have done that. Absolutely. If you have the opportunity to visit and stay at Still Waters, you will not be disappointed.
We are a group of 8 meditation practitioners who met for a retreat with our teacher who was visiting from Europe. Our retreat at Still Waters Pond far exceeded our expectations. Amy and Tao were wonderful to work with leading up to the retreat, reviewing every detail, offering helpful suggestions, remaining flexible, and responding very promptly to all communications. Amy also helped us by setting up an online registration which helped all of us plan. Most of all, their hearts were aligned with ours regarding the conditions we aspired to create for the ease of our community. When we arrived, the accommodations were well appointed, very attractive, and far more comfortable than expected for a retreat. The property is naturally quite beautiful and is punctuated by art and niches to linger and relax. The food was delicious, healthy, nicely presented, and lovingly prepared according to our unique preferences. The studio made a perfect meditation hall, and Amy and Tao helped us arrange it to meet our needs, including allowing us to set up our own altar with flowers off of their property. During the retreat, Amy and/or Tao were always available and immediately responsive to the smallest request, but never intrusive. The rate was extremely reasonable for what we received. We have already booked a week for next year's retreat!
The was a great place for peace and happiness. The hosts Amy and Tao are wonderful and made sure all details were handled for an incredible stay. The food was prepared with mindfulness and was very delicious. The rooms were very comfortable providing a great nights sleep. The gardens and whole property is beautiful making it an extremely peaceful stay. Highly recommend it for a retreat.
AMAZING!!!! and so relaxing. Carole from Harmony Yoga was fantastic. We had such a wonderful time doing yoga mediating, hiking an and so much more, The Still Water resort was beautiful and Tao and Amy were the most wonderful hosts. The accommodation was great and the food was incredible. Truly a memorable weekend !!! I look forward to doing it again.
5 stars isn't enough! 5 Elements Harmony Yoga Retreat held at Still Waters in Voluntown, CT and led by Carol Shwidock was AMAZING! Every detail thought out that nurtured our internal end external world. We were surrounded by nature at its finest, that Tao and Amy have crowned with artistic elements inside and out. I could never have imagined that this retreat would become the soul lifting experience it turned out to be.

My experience at Still Waters Retreat was beyond words. The atmosphere, the food, the hospitality of Amy and Tao was more than welcoming, it was a graced experience. You can tell that the essence of the fantastic people they are is in every aspect of this home, the food and the grounds. Andrea M.

I had the opportunity to co-lead a Buddhist retreat at Still Waters this past weekend. We could not have found a better place for our retreat. The accommodations were wonderful. The grounds were beautiful, but most beautiful and important was the love we all felt from Amy and Tao. They really go beyond being good hosts. I could tell that they cared about what we were trying to achieve at our retreat. Two of the topics of our retreat were love and spiritual friendship. Learning how to love and develop spiritual friendships are very important life lessons. Tao and Amy are fine examples of both.
